my apple music subscription ran out today and i have no money to get it back. since torrenting is impossible on this wifi, I'm stuck with free albums

itt: high-quality free albums you'd recommend

Likes, I N C R E M E N T S by Paper Void. found it today, not bad. the intro is a bit melodramatic but the instruments are well-produced and the woman's vocals are pretty fantastic

Solange’s since-deleted message was not quite factual. There have been four black Album of the Year winners in the past 20 years ― Herbie Hancock in 2008, Ray Charles in 2005, Outkast in 2004 and Lauryn Hill in 1999 ― along with a handful of performers on the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack, which won in 2002.

4 out of 20 black winners is 20%, the US black population is 12%

If anything they're overrepresented.

Somebody shared on Facebook a different Huffington Post article about the Grammys. The author of that article all but states that the only possible reason for Adele to have won the Grammy over Beyonce is racism. I don't know, could it not be that the jurors liked Adele's album more than Beyonce's?

DC was formed in the 90's dummy, and Beyonce's been a solo artist for almost 15 years. If anything i'm sick of pale whale Adele and her mediocre "singing". Like Amy Winehouse, Adele is another mediocre soulless product from the UK, desperate to con others into believing she has the voice and soul of a black woman when she doesn't and will never compare.

PAUL SIMON BLASTED BY OUTRAGED INTERNET FOR TWEETING TRIBUTE TO EX-WIFE.

Paul Simon, one of the most talented singer-songwriters to ever pick up a guitar, was once married to Carrie Fisher, who died at age 60 on December 27th. Simon even wrote two songs about the Star Wars icon, according to Mashable: "Heart and Bones" and "She Moves On."

So you'd think he might be allowed to say just about whatever he wants regarding the beloved actress and author's death. Unless, that is, you use the internet for anything.

Whatever ignorant pos created this stupid video in the first place needs to be fired. Maybe the DUMBEST thing I've ever seen a company do. Condescend and patronize and alienate a large swath of your audience and make others feel uncomfortable to boot? WHO does that? The left has come absolutely unglued. The only silver lining is that there is apparently at least one person at that company that recognized how STUPID this was and deleted the video. Cheers to common sense.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/12/20/mtv_news_tells_white_guys_what_they_could_do_better_in_2017.html

Update: MTV took down the video after less than 48 hours following an intense backlash from online commentators. A mirror is posted above because nothing can be deleted from the internet.

'MTV News' produced this video of proposed New Year's Resolutions for "white guys," because that group could "do a little better in 2017."

"Try to recognize that America was never 'great' for anyone who wasn't a white guy," the video urges America's white men, referring to Donald Trump's campaign slogan. "And learn what mansplaining is, then stop doing it."

It also advises them to: "Stop bragging about being 'woke.'"

"Just because you have black friends doesn’t mean you’re not racist. You can be racist with black friends," it clarifies. "And feel free to take Kanye West, though. You guys can have him." West met with Donald Trump last week.

As of this writing, the video had 89 'thumbs up' votes on Youtube and 11,922 'thumbs down' votes.

"I'm not even white, and this rustled my jimmies," one YouTuber said.

This is a shame. It's the sort of video that is stating things that many white people need to hear, even if they don't like hearing it.

Straight white men who go around claiming to be "woke" because they hold some enlightened liberal positions are particularly embarrassing. It's very presumptuous. As if they are able to decide how well they understand what women, people of color, and other marginalized groups have gone through in our deeply bigoted society.

I've often been referred to as being very woke, but I always leave that for others to judge. I make a sincere effort to help bring about change, but that's all I can really do.

When you say that, along with the tenor of that video, you give the impression that no matter how egalitarian you are, you are automatically guilty just because a person is white.

For me, I most definitely Rate her a 10. What about everyone else ?
2 Name: Anonymous : 2016-02-08 16:45
Didn't bother.

It gets really boring hearing that damn song that we should be ashamed for since it is all about war.

Figures though since this country was founded on war and has had one for every generation to take part in since then which is something to be ashamed of instead of proud.
3 Name: Anonymous : 2016-02-08 17:16
That's a cynical take. I appreciate your anti-war sentiment, but I'm going the other way. I love that our national anthem is a train wreck that's hard on the ears. I love that a dude witnessed a battle, wrote a patriotic song to the tune of a drinking song, and now it's out national anthem.

Most countries have old world themes that sound like what they are-- overly contrived bravado fit for marching bands and the like. "Blah blah, our country is strong, our country is great, rinse and repeat." Ours is actually about something. It reminds us that no matter how cynical we are about anthems or war, somebody fucking earned us the right to express those feelings. Somebody put their ass on the line (and continues to do it today) so jokers on message boards can complain about how annoying it is to sit through a song. The War of 1812 doesn't get the play of the Revolution, but it was absolutely vital to our early years of sovereignty.

I hear where you're coming from, America needs to examine its tendencies. But I'll always appreciate the message behind the Star Spangled Banner, just like I appreciate the documents of freedom drawn up by our slave owning founding fathers.
4 Name: Anonymous : 2016-02-08 19:22

Hippies seemed to have escaped the 60s.

Are you suggesting that we should still be an English colony...French colony...and Spanish settlement?
5 Name: Anonymous : 2016-02-08 19:30
I'm not sure how I felt about it. She was really inconsistent, putting lots of emotion into one syllable and then dropping dramatically the next. And yet, that was oddly effective.

I actually like the national anthem and listen to as many versions of it as I can, so I'll be returning to this one over the years and thinking about it some more.

I have never really got the love for vinyl over digital "You can hear the satisfying crackle and the music as its supposed to be..." What a load of bollocks, I don't want crackle I want to hear every note in crystal clear clarity. "I prefer the feel of vinyl and being able to hold the album cover.." sod that too, I like to be able to carry all of my music all at once in a device smaller than a cigarette packet. Digital>Vinyl for me.

http://www.laweekly.com/music/why-cds-may-actually-sound-better-than-vinyl-5352162

Yeah, same here. Once CDs came out, I never looked back.
3 Name: Anonymous : 2016-02-04 18:12
I think they probably are a lot of the time, but it depends on what sort of music it is.

On vinyl, big orchestral stuff may have some constriction in louder parts where the orchestra is playing in full, especially in the early stereo days of the 50s, but remastering of analogue recordings can bring too harsh a light on the upper registers, especially the violins. Warmth can be lost in the bass too.

I love classical vinyl, & don't feel the need to upgrade many of my recordings to CD. I have a couple of non classical LPs & 12" - some Oscar Peterson, Queen's A Night at the Opera, & the 12"s of 1999, Kiss & the them from Bullit. They sound wonderful, & the stereo separation in the Schifrin is fantastic.

It's obvious many classical CDs benefit from the more cleanly-defined mid-ranges that digital can offer, but it'll never change the quality or enjoyability of the performance itself, in much the same way that you can enjoy a favourite song on a single-speaker radio as much as you can via £1000s worth of hi-fi.

Where I grew up and went to high school in the 90s was dominated primarily by rap, with a small segment of students into country and even a smaller group into grunge or metal. So i barely knew any other metal heads until I was in college and beyond. Some encounters with other metal heads was kinda dissappointing, since I am big into Nu Metal and don't hate post Black Metallica I wasn't a true metal head. Even though I like bands across most genres, me not hating some forms lessened my metal card so to speak.

Just curious how other metal heads feel? Do they get the same kinda heat from other metal heads of other genres? I'm not a Slayer or Iron Maiden fan per se, but I respect the music, but doesn't mean I'm not a metal head.

In the late 90s/early 2000s in Europe (especially Italy) there was a wave of these so-called metal "purists" who would hate anything that had any influence not coming from classic or power metal. They were mostly teenagers who knew almost nothing about even historical metal bands yet were all accusing bands of "contaminating" their music. And most of those bands they listened to were absolutely atrocious.

I love a lot of different styles of Metal, however I've always found it despicable whenever certain Metal fans are put down because they don't like the same bands as you might. The whole elitist attitude is bullshit. I might not like bands like Asking Alexandria, Avenged Sevenfold, or Black Veil Brides, but I'm not going to hate on anyone that likes them, in fact I'm glad that people are into this type of music at all, hell at least its not fucking Kanye West. I see the elitist problem pretty rampant in Punk Rock & plenty of Indie Rock circles too. At the same time, you have too realize that most of the people who do this are very much in the minority, most Metalheads I've known aren't gong to give you crap for liking certain groups.

?Black Veil Brides...at least its not fucking Kanye West. So many things are wrong with this.

Also loving how you're saying elitism is bad you won't hate on anyone for liking certain artists, then immediately disparage a different artist.

Kinda similar feeling. Plus Brian Posehn(SP) does a good song, More metal than you, that kinda sums up how I feel. I also liked Metal Evolution, but Sam Dunn had similar thinking to elitest metal head. He didn't like Linkin Park and felt it was "less" metal than his style of choice.

I like both genres of Metal. Black and Death.

I'm looking for more heartbreaking guitar tunes like Cause We've Ended as Lovers by Jeff Beck or The Messiah Will Come Again by Roy Buchanan.

So Help m-, Swi- ugh, Waves (as it's now called), I really hope he reverts back to Swish.

I've got a feeling it's going to be a bit of a critical comedown after MBDTF and Yeezus. I'm hoping for something a little similar to his earlier material though. Anyone listened to the Good Friday track's he recently released?

Never cared for the douchebag. It could be his best or worst, yet it doesn't matter to me, and he is not getting any of my money.

I'll only buy it if he calls it TwitterFingers.
