Didn't bother.

It gets really boring hearing that damn song that we should be ashamed for since it is all about war.

Figures though since this country was founded on war and has had one for every generation to take part in since then which is something to be ashamed of instead of proud.

That's a cynical take. I appreciate your anti-war sentiment, but I'm going the other way. I love that our national anthem is a train wreck that's hard on the ears. I love that a dude witnessed a battle, wrote a patriotic song to the tune of a drinking song, and now it's out national anthem.

Most countries have old world themes that sound like what they are-- overly contrived bravado fit for marching bands and the like. "Blah blah, our country is strong, our country is great, rinse and repeat." Ours is actually about something. It reminds us that no matter how cynical we are about anthems or war, somebody fucking earned us the right to express those feelings. Somebody put their ass on the line (and continues to do it today) so jokers on message boards can complain about how annoying it is to sit through a song. The War of 1812 doesn't get the play of the Revolution, but it was absolutely vital to our early years of sovereignty.

I hear where you're coming from, America needs to examine its tendencies. But I'll always appreciate the message behind the Star Spangled Banner, just like I appreciate the documents of freedom drawn up by our slave owning founding fathers.

"This country"??

Hippies seemed to have escaped the 60s.

Are you suggesting that we should still be an English colony...French colony...and Spanish settlement?

I'm not sure how I felt about it. She was really inconsistent, putting lots of emotion into one syllable and then dropping dramatically the next. And yet, that was oddly effective.

I actually like the national anthem and listen to as many versions of it as I can, so I'll be returning to this one over the years and thinking about it some more.
