Hate across Metal genres

Where I grew up and went to high school in the 90s was dominated primarily by rap, with a small segment of students into country and even a smaller group into grunge or metal. So i barely knew any other metal heads until I was in college and beyond. Some encounters with other metal heads was kinda dissappointing, since I am big into Nu Metal and don't hate post Black Metallica I wasn't a true metal head. Even though I like bands across most genres, me not hating some forms lessened my metal card so to speak.

Just curious how other metal heads feel? Do they get the same kinda heat from other metal heads of other genres? I'm not a Slayer or Iron Maiden fan per se, but I respect the music, but doesn't mean I'm not a metal head.

some purist metal heads I've know have given me a hard time occasionally for liking stuff that isn't "true metal" but it doesn't bother me. I just laugh it off.

Metal cred is an idiotic concept. Nu-metal is terrible either way though.

I used to be like those metalheads. Then I turned 16.

In the late 90s/early 2000s in Europe (especially Italy) there was a wave of these so-called metal "purists" who would hate anything that had any influence not coming from classic or power metal. They were mostly teenagers who knew almost nothing about even historical metal bands yet were all accusing bands of "contaminating" their music. And most of those bands they listened to were absolutely atrocious.

I love a lot of different styles of Metal, however I've always found it despicable whenever certain Metal fans are put down because they don't like the same bands as you might. The whole elitist attitude is bullshit. I might not like bands like Asking Alexandria, Avenged Sevenfold, or Black Veil Brides, but I'm not going to hate on anyone that likes them, in fact I'm glad that people are into this type of music at all, hell at least its not fucking Kanye West. I see the elitist problem pretty rampant in Punk Rock & plenty of Indie Rock circles too. At the same time, you have too realize that most of the people who do this are very much in the minority, most Metalheads I've known aren't gong to give you crap for liking certain groups.

?Black Veil Brides...at least its not fucking Kanye West. So many things are wrong with this.

Also loving how you're saying elitism is bad you won't hate on anyone for liking certain artists, then immediately disparage a different artist.

Kinda similar feeling. Plus Brian Posehn(SP) does a good song, More metal than you, that kinda sums up how I feel. I also liked Metal Evolution, but Sam Dunn had similar thinking to elitest metal head. He didn't like Linkin Park and felt it was "less" metal than his style of choice.

I like both genres of Metal. Black and Death.
