Of all the movies in the series, which do you consider is the best? Obviously many of you will mention the 74 classic. But if we exclude that one, what would it be and why?

TCM2 — Vastly underrated.

Part 2 is absurdly hilarious from the get go starting with the poster which parodies The Breakfast Club. Bill Mosely kills every scene he's in as Chop-Top and Dennis Hopper hams it up like no other.

1 is excellent
2 is great
3 is really damn good.

Then there is everything else from tolerable reboots to really bad.

I do like the whole series, I just think rednecks are scary in general and anytime I have ever traveled and ended up passing through any area that is really remote, wooden overgrown or too country, I would have a small thought in my mind that I could end up in some redneck chili or hung up on a wall.

I think my favourites are The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)

and the 2003 remake.

The sequel to the remake is pretty damn good as well.

I think Leatherface and the 2013 reboot are kinda meh.

The first 2 are equally great, and the third one is pretty cool too. The rest of them kinda suck.

I don't recall the 2nd and Next Generation enough for a rating, and not including the original -

They're all pretty good except the 4th one (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation) i gave it a 1/10

Excluding the 1974 film... The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning are the only ones I enjoyed, although I'll admit they completely lack the impact or uniqueness of the earlier entires. But they knew what they were going for -- straight-up violence and gruesome horror suspense -- whereas the others in the franchise feel uneven in their tone.

Why did they decide to go for a straight reboot in 2003, and not a remake?

The problem with those 2 films is that R Lee Ermy is given too much focus. Leatherface feels like a secondary character in comparison to him.

I hated 2 the first time I saw it. When I saw it again years later, I wasn't so annoyed that it was so different than the original and ended up liking it quite a bit.

Didn't care for later sequels much or the reboot.

I'd say Part 2 is so much fun. I love Stretch and Chop Top and it was great to Leatherface and the Cook again. I always have a good time watching it and consider it the 2nd best only after the original.

I also like The Next Generation because of how bizarre it is. I always have to wonder "What were they thinking?" but that's what makes it so interesting. It's so otherworldly and just plain weird. Even more so knowing two people would become two huge stars after appearing in it. It's a "guilty pleasure" of mine.

The remake and the Beginning were pretty good, too. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III is just average while Texas Chainsaw 3D is pretty boring aside from the cameos by the original cast members.
