I don't see the comparison between Béla Tarr and Andrei Tarkovsky.

I really don't. Other than long takes and long movies, there really isn't much else to compare.

Btw they are my top 2 favorite directors so I'm not hating on ether one:)

it's the same as the comparisons between diaz and tarr. people just group slow cinema together even if that's the only general area of overlap.

It's really disappointing that people see 1 or 2 things in common and then go around saying one is copying the other.

There is none.

Wow! Very interesting read. Béla seemed to get a bit angry towards the end tho.

It's not just long takes, it's also the way their shots are composed and how they use pure cinema to immerse you into their world.

I mean you would agree surely that Tarr is much closer to Tarkovksy than say to Birdman, which also uses long takes.

The big difference is their outlook maybe. Tarkovsky is rather optimistic while Tarr is very pessimistic.

But there's a reason people who love Tarkovsky also often love filmmakers like Tarr, Mizoguchi and Dreyer. They feel like the same "family" of filmmakers, even though it may be hard to point out concrete similarities.
