I would say Rubber or Thankskilling are far worse. I do not even think it is the worst movie with a wide release. I think the hype was too much so it let everyone down.

Hype or not, it was a really bad film. Retarded characters running around touching aliens thinking nothing would happen, ripping off far better sci-fi films like 2001, not deciding whether it was a prequel to Alien. It's an awful film.

Why do people think so poorly of a film trying to aim towards big ideas.

Yes it is somewhat retarded, but that hasn't stopped me watching it umpteen times. The characters are the let down; they are either morons, or simply unappealing.
