Sausage Party (2016) sucked

If you're going to be intentionally, crass, trite, stereotypical, mildly offensive, vulgar, juvenile, obtuse and have an elitist, liberal message, at least be funny...
I wasn't expecting greatness, but this was so basic. Seth Rogen and Co. aren't known for their sophisticated humor or philosophical resonance. But they generally get a few laughs out of me. Here they simply didn't even seem to try and be funny, instead relying solely on the juxtaposition of the cutesy animation and vulgar content to carry the humor. But with a piss poor story, paper thin characters, dumb plot and perhaps the weakest running gag in recent memory, this just doesn't cut it.
Then there's the whole religion is for stupid people but if they need to believe in that crap to make it through they day, let them be willfully ignorant because they're dumb anyway message running through the movie that kind of surprised me. I'm not religious, but that was a very obnoxious theme slap on a movie. Considering they didn't offer any significant argument for this other than it's what they think so it must be right, the utter stupidity of the movie overall kind of devalues this point...
The one time they should have absolutely cut loose they played it pretty soft. The scene where the food rebels should have been a gory, disgusting bloodbath. It was full of cartoony, over-the-top, slapstick violence though...
I honestly expected to enjoy this knowing that it was a dumb movie, but it just wasn't funny. Yeah, the douche bag character and the gum had a couple funny moments and the bath salts bit was kind of humorous. But considering the content, boring should not be the best word I can think of to describe it. Worst comedy I've seen since The Internship...

The overwhelming majority of comedies suck.
The last one I enjoyed was Wolf of Wallstreet. (yes, its a comedy)
I hate sitcoms also. They just arent funny.

An overwhelming majority of movies suck.
Still haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street...
I like decent sit-coms, or just funny ones. Most aren't though. I haven't followed a sit-com since the first couple seasons of The Big Bang Theory. The actual show kind of sucked but it was cool to see geeky *beep* for the most part, accurately referenced on TV. The characters and stories were lacking but the jokes were better than average...
Well, there are a couple decent Netflix exclusive sit-coms, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Haters Back Off! come to mind...

The Wolf of Wall Street is not a comedy...
LMAO!

Ye it sucked beyond the bits shown in the trailer. Nothing liberal about it though.

:( Troll harder.
:) Uhm, it kind of was. Guess you missed the whole fck religion (morally conservative values) and go get laid message. Live for today because this is all there is is a liberal ideology.

There wasn't really any message. It also had incredibly offensive caricatures but that's fine cos it's...a tryhard-offensive comedy. Not liberal tho

Well, I was surprised by how in your face they were about bashing religion. Didn't expect that going in.
If you want to say it wasn't liberal...I guess I won't quibble, but I disagree. It was definitely sour on religion. I mean, the climax of the movie is them killing their "gods" and having an orgy...

I liked it, after going in not expecting much. I rather the movie go in with an atheist theme over just mocking Christianity. It's kind of a dark and irreverent stoner comedy, and I'm okay with that.

I am too...in general. Loved Pineapple Express and even dug The Interview OK. This just wasn't good and it wasn't anywhere near funny enough to make up for that.

The only time I genuinely laughed was when the gum got shot and the Terminator music played and he reformed like the T-1000. I guess I was more surprised that in the third act they finally thought it would be a good idea to include a funny, if quite dated, reference instead of just making food say bad words...

Pretty much agree.
They tried for South Park humor, but had none of the cleverness or satire...it was all just slapstick and 4th grade toilet humor. Which can't carry a movie.

That feeling when you ramble on for way too long and someone sums up your point in a single, concise sentence...

I had blast, it was constantly hilarious and over-the-top while mocking pretty much everything, cultures, religion, sexual orientations. Some of Rogen's and Co best and most inspired work. And it has the most memorable scene of the year ofc

I didn't waste any time or money on Sausage Party. That movie looked absolutely ridiculous.

I liked it, just had a sh!tty ending. Like the sh!ttiest of endings because they realized that there's no 'real' way to give this food a happy ending since they you know, expire. So instead "Lolololol fourthwall jokes. The Jewish bagel is voiced by Edward Norton Lololololol end movie."
And come on, not even a chuckle when Meatloaf shows up?

I'd actually already forgotten the ending just now. That was pretty crap. It was like they were proud of what they had made and wanted everyone to see who was behind it...
Meatloaf did get a smile, not a chuckle, from me. The best bits had absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie...

I agree. As a whole, I was pretty let down, but that Douche though . He stole the film for me and I usually hate Nick Kroll
