Any non SW fans not like Rogue One??

I thought it was really boring!! I didn't like any of the characters and thought the story was either hard to follow with all the terminology or just bland.
I enjoyed TFA until the third act, but I enjoyed the characters and JJ's direction. Just throwing that out.

Yep, very bland. The two first acts are awfully paced and dull, just a bunch of talking about a plans that we already know of (trying to complicate a short story into a plotted mess), very little character, pretty stupid intro too btw - then they throw these characters into one of the most limited stories ever, there's no room for nothing, everything just felt really unnecessary. Thrid act is a lot better, but isn't enough to save the movie from being mediocre. The scale of battle is cool though, the space fights are probably the best ever in any SW movie and the lighting in these scenes are good. VFX good too, and however useless Vader was in the movie as whole, his final scene was *beep* scary. Highlight for sure, lol. And the framing in some of the conversations felt really off, there's like NO close-ups in the entire film. Except from the dog-fights, and that's the best part. Everything feels very disconnected from emotion because of it.

How could you possibly like that TFA trash?

I hate every Star Wars, except for Rogue One and TFA. Rogue One isn't that good though. I gave it a C or a 7/10. It's not good or bad, just decent.

>>5No, since it's possibly the best SW yet.

Hated it. And I don't mean the story (which would have been fine) but this was some of the most boring, clichéed dialogue I've ever had the misfortune to hear in such a "high profile" film. And Mikkelsen acts his parts with ZERO emotion. Why? That guy CAN act. Same with Jones: that girl knows how to act but here she seems like an amateur. In fact, most of the acting is as wooden as if Lucas himself had directed it and the only saving grace are Mendelsohn and Whitaker. There's hardly any character moments or backstory (and the precious few character moments that there are are painful to watch because the lines are so cheesy). The pacing throughout is way off. And Whitaker's character is wasted for no reason: Saw Gerrera's refusal to flee the destruction simply makes no sense at all since no one profits from it.
Damn it, after the good reiviews I was actually looking forward to the film, but now that I've seen it (well, 90% of it - I actually walked out), I must say I believe this film was butchered in post and through rushed re-shoots. I can see there is a good film in there somewhere trying to get out, but it's all so sloppily edited together and the characters are so flat and boring that I was never able to get immersed in the story - despite some of the most beautiful visuals I've ever seen. Shame. I hated, hated, hated this film!
Sorry for my rant, but I just had to get this off my chest. I believe this was the first time I walked out of a film ever (I even suffered through the whole Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).

Felt miscast to me, little time on screen and he need the audience to be attach to him, maybe that it was not clear if he was a good guy or a bad scientist at one point, say before the reshoot.
Whitaker's character is wasted for no reason
It is, I imagine that Jones character was at one point member of that extreme rebel branch (and why she in the first trailers enter the alliance base in handcuff and found them soft in their rebellions), removing that aspect and Whitaker character (and the hole concept of that more extreme branch of rebellion) has little payoff. Same goes for the guy lead shooting on one of those most extreme rebellion during the Irak like tank fight scene, no payoff to that at all in this version.

>>8Exactly. I feel like those characters are casualties of the re-shoots. Otherwise, why would they cast these great actors in roles where they have nothing to do?

doesn't have as much of the original star wars "magic" but i think thats impossible to recreate. its a good backstory to a new hope and they tie it together at the end really well. the cameos didn't feel forced into the movie and it was fun to see some familiar characters. Vader has only 2 scenes and nobody can deny how literally awesome he is in them. the main characters arent well developed and seem just to be there to push the plot along, but lets be honest nobody really wanted to watch the movie for them anyway. the cinematography was different than any other star wars movie and i personally liked it more than how star wars usually if filmed - it felt more like a war movie. i think because you cant recreate that "magic" of watching space battles for the first time and learning about the force and jedis, it fit perfectly for a "spinoff" of the saga. also, the presence of the force and jedis is basically non-existent in this movie, which is more refreshing than it is disappointing.
