So let me get this straight:

The army vet kidnaps the woman who killed his daughter and he's had her for a matter of months, even though his daughter has been dead for nearly 20 years judging from the date on the video he's watching and the overall decay of the neighborhood.

So he waited 15+ years to kidnap her? And how exactly did a blind army vet manage to do this? Apparently a rich girl goes missing and nobody thinks to question to the guy whose daughter she killed?

Also, like The Gift this is apparently one of those movies that acts like insemination immediately equals impregnation, since the blind man doesn't seem to know or care whether Rocky here is on any form of birth control and just takes it for granted that she is going to bear his kid.

Finally, if I'm watching the Night Train Murders or some David Hess film I know what I'm getting into entirely but to throw that turkey baster scene out of absolutely nowhere into this movie just reeked of the director trying so hard to be "edgy" no matter how little sense it made within the context of the plot. It was just unnecessary and gross and at that point he may as well have made the blind man a cannibal or something.

The shame of it is the setting was great, the villain was great, the setup was really well done and the movie just flew off the rails so hard in the 3rd act and lost all plausibility for me.

6/10. I'd be interested to see what the director could do with a script that doesn't suck.

I was so disappointed with that turn that I almost checked-out but I hung on in and enjoyed it a different (lower) level.
Ultimately it was OK, but it could have been something much more interesting.

I didn't mind him being a bad guy. From the trailers it looked like something truly sinister was going on in that house. I like when the victim turns out to be the real threat. I knew he'd be a sicko somehow. Maybe a cannibal, serial killer or devil worshipper. In the trailer, we saw him for a split second mixing up black sludge in a vat or cauldron lol. I was like "WTF IS THAT?!" lol. What didn't work was the reason WHY he was a bad guy. I found it kind of lame because of OP's reasons.

It was hard to root for Levy. I only kind of rooted for the kid who went back for her.

I still enjoyed the film.

I was willing to accept that this blind guy had his house rigged to be near impossible to enter or leave and that he'd be able to get the jump on burglars. I was less willing to accept the fact that his Daredevil like abilities to sense intruders, like his angry dog, seemed to come and go according to the whims of the screenwriter. To me, that all fell within an acceptable level of suspension of disbelief.

What I couldn't buy was that a blind army vet would wait 15+ years to kidnap the woman who killed his daughter, or that he'd even be able to pull that kidnapping off, especially without arousing any suspicion from the police. I also had a hard time believing that a blind army vet would be able to develop an artificial insemination dungeon.

Finally, I think the screenwriters made a mistake making all of the victims so loathesome. But they made an even bigger mistake making the blind man a rapist. And yes, regardless of how you spin it artificially inseminating a woman with a turkey baster is rape.

A real waste of some tense moments, stylish direction and a great setting and villain.

Same question came to my mind while watching it. I thot mayb they will explain in the sequel. Nonetheless it is a good thriller.
