All the guesses on this thread are marquee names, but the reports describe the actor in question as "well-known" and "world famous" rather than A-list. If it was anyone even remotely near A-list status the laws of journalistic hyperbole would demand he be described as an A-lister.

There's nothing in there to suggest he's a film star either, just a middle-aged actor. He's probably someone from a nineties TV show I didn't watch. The guy who played Newman on Seinfeld is "world famous", fergodsake. These stories never turn out to be about Tom Cruise or even Nic Cage.
