The New Star Trek TV Series coming out in January 2017, Official name Star Trek: Discovery, we have heard official news it will be in the "Prime Timeline"

which is good, not the Kelvin Timeline, the JJ-Verse which started with the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot, but I have heard speculation that Discovery will talk place in the 23rd century before The Original Series, But when in the Prime Timeline will Discovery take place ?

Myself and other Trek Fans were Hoping The New Series coming out in January 2017, which we now know is called "Discovery" we were hoping the New Series would take Place in the Far Future, say the late 27th Century, way beyond the ending of Star Trek: Voyager

I've heard (read) 2 reasonably credible rumors. The first and more likely at this point is before TOS between 2165 and 2230. There are a couple of reasons. The ships number NCC 1031 is would fit right if this was a new ship during that time period. It would also help explain why CBS and Paramount got their panties in such a twist over Star Trek Axanar, the fan film. It takes place during that same general time period. I think they will use this time because it really skirts the whole timeline issue. If it takes place before the timeline splits it doesn't really matter what timeline they say it's in.

The second rumor was that it takes place between TOS and STNG (which I would prefer). Discovery would be an old ship. I think this this would also work well in a story telling situation.

I agree a post Voyager show in the real timeline, not Jar Jar Abrams crap, would be best. Oh well.

I was thinking more along the lines of it the TV show "Andromeda" being set after the fall of the Federation (think Mad Max in outer space). Discovery when it was built was soo advanced that it was mothballed and labled "do not open until doomsday" and it got lost in the bureaucracy. A group of "adventurers"
come across the dock that it was in and decide to rebuild the Federation.

It would be fun but they'd never do it. I was thinking a old ship, 50 to 60. Off in some normally unimportant/boring piece of space. Crewed by rejects, burnouts and malcontents. Suddenly gets caught up in something important. The Basilisk Station effect (Honor Harrington books).

Time point has been established. It's between ENT and TOS, which explains the reaction to Axanar.

Just avoiding the timeline issue by setting it before the new movies is the best move. No one gets confused that way.

The best thing it could do is help drive a stake through the heart of the movies and their crap timeline. Oh well.

Hopefully, with each new movie making less than the last they'll soon collapse in on themselves like a dying star.
