"YouTubers" should stop it already

...putting up:

1) Godawful "dubstep" remixes of perfectly fine songs. You have no talent and nobody cares, you suck.
2) Making sad, whiny acoustic covers of what were originally upbeat songs. You know, if I look for a cover of an upbeat song the last thing I wanna hear is you whining.

I've heard these more than #1, and yea, these suck. Like, always.

Similarly, I dislike the trend of movie trailers that do crappy, faux-solemn covers of well-known pop/rock songs. Often sung by a choir because that's like so deep bro.

Yeah, I agree. They do suck. So far it's been a pretty limited trend, though (thankfully).

As for the dubsteb remixes, they're usually of techno songs (although I've heard a few for rock songs too).

Yea, thinking about it now I think that little trend has thankfully been over and done with for a couple of years now perhaps, it seemed to pop up for a number of movies after it was done quite popularly with The Social Network trailer.

Speaking of trends long past their sell-by date...dubstep is still a thing now? Ugh.

Not sure, it's even if it's not, the "videos" are still there on YouTube for people to see. The funny thing is that most of them have so few views it's pathetic, I guess there aren't many people looking for remixes in the first place. Still, just because you can remix a song doesn't mean you should, especially since so many of these remixes are done by people who clearly suck at it.

Apparently 'reaction videos' are still a thing which I feel is one of the most boring stuff you can do on Youtube; watching a bunch of strangers watching stuff and seeing their reactions.

I don't know why but I like the reaction videos. Not all of them as some people tend to overreact and some tend to just talk through the whole thing and try to be "funny" and whatnot, but there's something, I don't know, appealing and strangely compelling about watching them.

More importantly, I think they could be especially useful for people who work for movie studios (the promoters/marketers/whatever) and are looking to see what kind of reactions their trailers got because it's almost kind of like a focus group, but because most of these videos are just a single person (or in some cases a few people) watching it, there's no chance of one person influencing another as might happen with a focus group.

It might hold some validity from the marketing perspective, but most of the studios rely on Twitter and Facebook to see how their films are trending, so I doubt that any studio would drastically change their promotion strategy just because some people said 'Wow, holy Shit' during a sequence in the trailer. And yeah, I think most of them are actually overreactions just to make the video more 'cool and popular'.

What's even more annoying is that these videos pop up within hours of something getting released. I swear a few days back, I was searching for the new trailer of Suicide Squad, and I got like ten reaction videos of the trailer before locating the actual trailer. Infact now they do it for music videos and video game trailers as well.

They also do reaction videos to other YouTube videos, which I find frankly ridiculous. It got extremely meta in one particular case where someone made a "roast" video where they "roasted" a couple of fellow YouTube reactors, then one of those other reactors did a reaction video to that roast video, then someone else did a reaction video to their reaction video... it was like Inception or something. I didn't watch any of them but it was hilarious they did that.

I usually just check out the reactions to trailers to movies I'm looking forward to - usually, that's not a very long list.

I do like checking out TV reactions though - there are some people who upload reactions to TV shows, and for the most part, they're a completely different set of people than the ones who do trailer reactions and I find those interesting.

There was this one reaction video that I somewhat enjoyed. I think it was for Hobbit: Battle of 5 armies and they had these two sisters who were reacting to it. Then it got so popular that apparently Peter Jackson, of all people, made a reaction video of Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lily and Lee Pace reacting to those girls reactions. And finally, those girls made a video reacting to the actors reacting to their reactions of the trailer. It was hardcore Inception level of reaction videos.

Also, TV reactions were ok in 2013 when everyone was reacting to the wedding scene of GOT Season 3. Now, it's become more of a spoiler alert.

Hmm, I have not heard of that before. I might go look it up.

I actually tend to like most of the female reactors than the male ones in general because a lot of the male ones I've seen, they tend to be really loud and obnoxious about everything. I like this guy Andrew from a channel called Flick Freaks because unlike all the other reaction videos he seems to actually do some research into the movie beforehand and seems to know what the plot of the movie is, who's starring in it, etc. Also, he's got a pretty cool mustache.

I agree, those usually suck too. Most of the time they're so over the top and badly 'acted' they're just ridiculous.

May I add one?

3) Video reviews. It doesn't matter if it's for a book, a movie, a video game, or anything, really - they're obnoxious and only show that you like to whine.

Anthony Fantano aka The Needle Drop should be executed.

Yes.

I hate it when they dupe in some gawdawful slash metal or that obnoxious rap crap that has no relevance to the video, just because they like it.

Now I am very careful to only approach Utube with the speakers off.
