Oh Jeez, an 8 year old isn't a 5 year old. By 8 they probably no longer watch Sesame Street. At 8 I was enjoying listening to the boxing matches that my grandfather listened to on the radio, and could tell you in fact who the champs of the day were. I would listen to the Shadow, and several other radio shows. (needless to say we didn't have a TV yet and there were still programs on the radio).
