Based on a novel by Philip K. Dick, this movie doesn't share the same atmosphere as Blade Runner, but it doesn't mean that Total Recall wasn't a rewarding viewing experience because it was. Total Recall was entertaining, not one dull moment passed by and Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered a perfectly good performance, as well as Sharon Stone, who'd get the role of a lifetime the next year with Basic Instinct. She was superb as his lethal wife. Sweet and caring and then she switches into a martial arts expert/femme-fatale.

Rachel Ticotin only shows up halfway through the film and kicks ass as Melina, but there's little development within the role. She comes too late into the movie and then has to quickly join forces with Schwarzenegger's Quaid.

The villains are a blast. Ronny Cox is cartoonish and evil, he's always been tops when it comes to being the bad guy (Robocop) but I was more fond of Michael Ironside because his bad guy was more complex. It isn't so much about him taking orders and being bad. He has a personal vendetta against Quaid because of Stone's Lori. It's almost like a male soap-opera.
