I remember watching "The Legend of Billie Jean" and being enraptured by the story. At face value, the film appears to be a generic, commercial film for adolescents. In spite of one's first impressions, it manages to be a empowering film for girls as the title character, Billie Jean (winningly played by Helen Slater), defends herself from the abuse of an older man yet when her attacker is shot, Billie Jean and her friends are forced to run away. As the police goes on their trail, Billie Jean becomes a symbol for the young, a Joan of Arc for girls and boys who are over being pushed around or condescended to.

The song, invincible by Pat Benatar, comes from the film. It will have you singing along to it.
