A friend of mine came up with the idea of instead of Michael returning to kill Jamie but rather protect her. If you think about a lot of the victims could have said or done something that could have been against Jamie.

01.Ambulance Personnel
Perhaps upon realizing he's only got a niece, the male paramedic could have said "I think they should just get rid of anyone related to this freak. That entire family must be freaks." That alone would offend Michael.

02.Mechanic
He's one of the few who will die for no reason. As he's wearing his trademark clothes, he's killed for it.

03.Waitress
A character we never see die. Perhaps she claims she hates kids and says she'd kill kids out of stress, Michael takes it offensive as a possible threat to Jamie as she's just a child.

04.Bucky
We all know Jamie gets lost after visiting Kelly when Rachel discovers that Brady is cheating. Perhaps Michael followed Jamie where Jamie accidentally runs into Bucky. Bucky, being the loudmouth dick we know him as, yells and threatens her like he does to Michael. Pissed that this grown mad scared and yelled at his precious niece, Michael kills him for it.

05.Police Officers
Upon realizing that the city now knows of his presence, she's going to held by police. Even though their job is to protect her, Michael will not see it like this. Michael kills cops in order to gain her presence somehow.

06.Deputy Logan
Same reason as above.

07.Kelly & Brady
Perhaps in this version, it's Jamie who notices that Brady is cheating with Kelly. She snitches on them to Rachel. Angry, the two curse Jamie. Like Kelly saying she wants to strangle that little shlt (Jamie) and Brady admitting he never liked Jamie. Overhearing this, Michael kills them for it.

08.Earl and his gang
We all know how much these guys HATE Michael and Michael knows it. Perhaps in Michael's mind, they see Jamie as his little girl who he loves so to get their revenge they'll kidnap her and kill her for his sins. Well, we just can't have that right? So Michael kills them thinking that he's coming to Jamie's rescue.

But, of course, this is never made clear to anyone until the end. Perhaps when Jamie touches him and the cops and rednecks come with guns, Michael pushes Jamie out of the way and takes bullets for her. Only then do everyone realizes he's protecting his niece and killed for her.
