Is it normal that I didn't get the Inherent Vice mystery ?

Just watched it last night, and while I enjoyed the hazy and paranoid atmosphere, I still don't know what really happened between the rich guy sent to the loony hospital, his wife and boyfriend, Owen Wilson's character, the group he was in, the "Golden Fang", the dentist's organization, Bigfoot's partner...

This is all very confusing. It was like I was on drugs myself sometimes, and Joaquin Phoenix's expressions reflected my bewilderement.

Yes they're stuff going on with very little exposition.

Spoiler:

I think the CIA is sending someone in a mental hospital and declaring it crazy because he wanted to give free land and housing to people (that would have make that housing market collaspe).

But I would need to rewatch it.

Yeah I got that but I'm not sure what was every person/group's role in the whole thing etc...

It felt a bit like The Big Sleep in that sense.

Don't feel bad about yourself, most people didn't get it, at least on the first viewing. I'm pretty sure I got it all figured out after 2 viewings.

Gee, people far and wide really think you're a vile, scummy, worthless, ugly, empty, self-hating Ben Ceaser pretender, really? Where do they get that idea.

It was one of the most confusing films I've seen, but I didn't care much about the story. I just followed the wild ride throughout the charismatic character and had a great experience

If you're trying to decipher its plot you're watching it the wrong way.

I would say it's normal for you to not get any film, as you've proved repeatedly.
