I don't believe every director is either "serious" or a hack.

At this point in his career, I don't think it really matters. I appreciate his early works; I don't really care what he does now.

Yeah it kind of destroys the myth. But his movies are still as good (well the ones that are good).

Beats me. The only thing he's done that I've seen all the way through is Alien, and that didn't seem like the work of a hack. It's a pretty cool flick.

Well he has said that he mostly does it for the money.

But I think he is a good/great director, so if he still does a good job making his films than I don't really care.
