I swear, the detractors of this movie make me laugh. They nit pick minor details and treat it like it some affront to Christ or something.

Honestly, the IMAX 3D version I saw was probably the best and most immersive theatrical experience I've seen. Are you a fan of the Alien franchise?

It's also some well known twirps with an unexplainable vendetta for Ridley Scott.

I'm not crazy about the Alien franchise, and I have a number of reasons to dislike (but not hate) Prometheus:

1. Logan Marshall-Green's character was highly uninteresting.
2. I think that, a lot of the time, an attempt to explain fiction ruins it. The Xenomorph should be inexplicable.
3. There were silly plot-holes (or perhaps simply stupid moments) which seem to have been kept in order to deliver a good visual experience - what I'm thinking of here is the death of Charlize Theron's character.

How is Theron's death a plot hole? If it's not a plot hole, I didn't see how it's a "stupid moment", either.

Also, there's a lot that was left ambiguous. The movie only hinted at a possible explanation to the origin of the xenomorphs. Not exactly "explaining everything away" like some claim.

I think the movie should be taken as its own beast.

Because the Alien franchise takes place in a three-dimensional world, and so its characters should have the ability to run sideways. It's comical, really - it looks like the train scene from Stand By Me, but done horribly wrong.

And yeah, I'm glad that it didn't go to Silmarillion measures in explaining things, but I think that half the terror of the Xenomorphs (just like Predator and The Thing) comes from its unknown nature. If a film producer comes along and creates a chart, showing how the Xenomorph evolved just like the rest us, H.R. Giger's aliens become a lot less mystifying.

Although there has been a lot of mythology building on the Predator, I agree in regard to The Thing. That movie is a masterpiece because we don't quite know what it's capable of and the possibilities are limitless and truly frightening.

Oh, my mistake. I haven't seen the films in quite a few years.
I agree that the film taken on its own terms is certainly above average, and is fun in places. I thought that the pregnancy/abortion scene was incredibly well made, and it's probably my favourite scene in the series since John Hurt's iconic one in the first film. It's very hard to detach a film from its series though, I think, and if everyone could do it then I think famously disappointing sequels/prequels such as The Godfather: Part III and The Phantom Menace would receive much more favourable reviews than they do.

I think Prometheus is lucky in that regard in that one doesn't have to view the other entries in a series to appreciate visuals, themes, storyline, etc. Godfather III is one example where everything that could go wrong did. G3 and TPM are also actively building on/building towards the other films in a series and Prometheus is too kind of, but also veers in it's own direction by the end. To use a bad example, it's kind of like GOTG and MCU. It all happens in the same universe, but doesn't necessarily connect, yamean?

She isn't the first person in film to not be able to outrun a ship. I saw no problem with the scene as she turned a few times but the ship seemed to follow her movements.

She was also panicking. When you're panicking, you don't always think logically.

Nope, it’s just a terrible film. But I agree that it gets a lot of unfair hate.

I never understood the incredible amount of hate for PROMETHEUS. I don't think it's a perfect movie, but I think it's a very well made, entertaining, and beautiful looking movie.

No I do to. Though hate is too strong a word.

I am far from an Alien fanboy yet I could not make it through the first 15 minutes of Prometheus when I started watching it a few months ago. I don't know exactly why but it just didn't work for me as a movie. I said to myself that I should watch it another time but have felt no desire to do so.

I'm not and I think prometheus sucks, the characters are really dumb.

I'm no fan of the Alien series, but I do hate Prometheus - and not for reasons that have anything to do with a comparison with the first two Alien movies (the only two I've seen).

Nor for nit-picky reasons either, but for enormous, broad badnesses that run through the entire film. The largest of these are:

(1) The film is ugly, and half the time positively revolting to look at (icky black goo, pale humanoid creatures that look like maggots on steroids, slimy aliens and torn-apart human flesh - I don't feel we need this stuff even in a horror movie, but this isn't really a horror movie, so there's no excuse for it at all); and

(2) The scientists are utterly unconvincing as scientists. They come across as rather stupid. And I'm not talking about their actions - constantly putting themselves in harm's way, which other people seem to complain about but I'm perfectly okay with - but their outlook, the vapid ideas they throw out when they're chatting to one another, the dialogue that sounds as though it was written by a half-bright 12-year-old who had heard of academics but never met one, and was doing his best to guess what they might be like.

You can't handle looking at a black substance? You're not touching the stuff, so what's the big deal? Your complaints in your point #1 are rather silly.

As someone who loves the first two Alien films (Aliens is one of my all-time favorite films), I actually thought Prometheus was the first good addition to the franchise in 25 years. It’s not perfect, but it’s a helluva lot better than any of the films not directed by either Ridley Scott or James Cameron are.
