Yep, John Carpenter is very overrated.

I sort of agree. Some of his work deserves praise, but his entire body of work isn't worth as much. He definitely made his mark in the industry though.

He's made some crap movies...yes. He's also made some excellent movies, I doubt many here would disagree. Who's over rating him exactly?

Yea, I don't think John Carpenter is really a "name" director that could be overrated by the public at large. He's obviously made famous films, but could most people even name the guy like Spielberg or Hitchcock? I doubt it.

He’s overrated in sense that even Kubrick doesn’t have the cult following he does.

I only liked his "Halloween". I'm not a fan of his other work.

I think he's underrated. Would love to see a new film by him. He's made some great movies. Most of the time with a really low budget. The scores that he does himself are brilliant too. I would say STARMAN is superb!
