Prometheus 2 to begin filming in February

In further news nobody cares about...:

Following the release of his new film The Martian, Ridley Scott is set for an instant return to the sci-fi genre as production gets underway early next year on the follow-up to 2012’s Prometheus. Speaking to Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival, the British filmmaker has revealed that filming on Prometheus 2 will likely start in February, as well as touching upon what he wants to explore with the story:

“You can either say, leave the first film alone and jump ahead, but you can’t because it ends on too specific a plot sentence as she says, I want to go where they came from, I don’t want to go back to where I came from. I thought the subtext of that film was a bit florid and grandiose, but it asks a good question: who created us? I don’t think we are here by accident. … It is pretty grand thinking, and that’s what I want to explore. You’ve got to go back and find those engineers and see what they are thinking. If engineers are the forerunners of us, and therefore were creators of life forms in places that were possible for biology to function, who created that? Where’s the big boy? You think this was all an accident?”

Prometheus 2 is set for release on May 30th 2017, with Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender both reprising their roles from the first movie.

Maybe they can pick up the pieces and make a good movie, but I doubt it. I think between this and no talent Blomkamp's Alien sequel, this series has lost my interest.

A while ago I was doing an "Alien" franchise marathon, I had already seen Alien and the Predator cross-overs. I got through all of those movies yet with Prometheus I felt inclined to stop after 15 minutes, and I could not bring myself to finish it.

I will probably give it a second chance before Prometheus 2 comes out but it does feel like a chore.

I'll wait for the DVD. The first Prometheus was such a let-down. Can't really see how this one could be any better.

I think the plot for this second film could potentially be much more interesting than that of the first. I will inevitably see it even if it ends up looking kinda stinky.

Agreed.

I'm in, just keep Lindelof the fuck away from it.

He is not writing it, fortunately. However, they've chosen to replace him with the writers of...Green Lantern and Transcendence.

That's ok, it just seems to me that everything Lindy touches, he manages to make worse. Transcendence actually had a good story, it's execution was boring. Green Lantern...no real valid opinion on the writing, even though if I had to pick a favourite Superhero character it would be The Green Lantern. Movie was average at best.

Haven't actually seen Transcendence, but it certainly got pounded. I'd be willing to watch it on TV. Green Lantern was OK, wasn't a big fan of the writing and Parallax looked ridiculous. Not overly familiar with the Green Lantern comic books, any recommendations on where to start?

Not a clue, it's been ages since I've even glanced at a comic. I was basically saying Green Lantern held the more interesting concept as a Superhero for me but I'm no fan boy.

It's a cool concept, the intergalactic police officer. I liked the Jon Stewart version of the character on the Justice League cartoons when I was a kid.

Did you ever see the Super Friends cartoon? I watched reruns of that as a kid also, funny how they tried to insert diversity into it while making it as stereotypical as possible at the same time.

I can't recall seeing any cartoons featuring Green Lantern. I am familiar with Justice League and Super Friends but never seen any episodes. I've recently watched Planet Hulk, some bits from Gods and Monsters(?) I think it's called and some episodes with Ironman and Hulk battling some alien type sh!t? All recent of course. Netflix has loads of those types of cartoons and I occasionally jump in cause there's still a part of me that's a nerdy kid. I've really enjoyed anime films like Ghost in the Shell recently.

Green Lantern was in both cartoons, although in JL a different character from Hal Jordan had the ring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjsrD5dU9GQ and in Super Friends his powers were a bit different, if he made a snake out of his ring for example, it would be a real living breathing snake.

Here's the super racial Super Friends: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CBttv06UMAAZvze.jpg

I thought Prometheus was good, it could have been better, but it wasn't a stinker like say Exodus or Robin Hood. I hope Ridley can actually work on a decent screenplay this time.

Prometheus: 2Frustrating2Farfetched.

In all seriousness, though, I think the first movie was a mess that at least ended on an interesting hook for a sequel. I could even see a TV show about a lady and a disembodied robot head travelling around the galaxy in a stolen warship...oh, wait, I just described Lexx.

Lexx sounds a hell of a lot like Farscape.

A group of desperate fugitives from an interplanetary tyranny find themselves in control of a massively powerful starship.

There's more similarites. They were both on America's SciFi Channel at the same time, they were both international coproductions (Lexx was Canadian-German/British, Farscape was Aussie-American), and they both had the tendency to make you ask "what the hell kind of fetishes is this made for?!"--Farscape with its S&M overtones and Muppet sex, and Lexx with literally everything.

I don't know if I can objectively call Lexx a good show overall, but I can say that its first season is some of the most hilariously twisted TV I've ever seen. But approach with caution.

I'm psyched and happen to think that Prometheus was a strong film that probably upset a lot of people when it no longer seemed like a direct Alien prequel.
19 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 17:46
Why are they making a sequel to a film that underperformed and wasn't highly regarded?
20 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 17:16
It made a profit, there is a solid fanbase for the franchise and 2 will make money.

There is for the Alien franchise, but I was under the impression that Prometheus was pretty reviled by most people.
22 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 17:56
I think it was reviled by the Alien fans for not being in step but sci-fy fans embraced the movie as far as I know.
23 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 18:22
Okay, I stand corrected. I still haven't seen it either way.
24 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:42
If you do watch it, try to watch it as a stand alone science fiction. You might like it more, or at least forgive some of the idiocy of the characters.
25 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:22
I'm definitely gonna watch it at some point, if for no other reason than to see how exactly it's connected to the Alien movies, which I'm still confused about.
26 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:54
I care, this could be a more direct prequel to alien franchise and actually involve Xenomorphs this time.
27 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 21:51
I'm not 100% on this but I think I read that they are moving even further away from the Alien canon in order not to interfere with the Blomcamp movie.
28 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:33
Really? I was assuming this was supposed to take place right after the first Prometheus and hopefully go into the Xenomorph origins a bit more.
29 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:58
I'm not sure of the timeline of the Blompy movie or if it's even going to reference any of Prometheus. I need more data, time will reveal all.

Sorry, you're talking about Prometheus 2...like I was saying, I'm not positive but it sounds like they want to explore the world of the Engineers and that storyline rather than the Xenomorphs.
30 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-16 00:11
I'm not sure of the validity of this but....

Prometheus 2 will not focus primarily on Shaw and David on board the Juggernaut they escaped in. This time frame is said to be glazed over, since Shaw will be incapacitated for most of the trip anyways

There will be 3 main plot lines, Shaw and David's mission to Paradise is only one of these three

The Engineers are NOT our cretors, but servants to a higher being, much like David is to Humanity

Prometheus 2 WILL link LV-223 and LV-426, it will provide some answers to Alien, but it won't be an 'Alien' movie

Prometheus 2 will feature 2 monsters - both having connections to the Xenomorph, but are not Xenomorphs themselves

There will be a loose connection between the Engineers and the Prometheus myth, involving "fire", however we believe this is in a metaphorical sense

Project Prometheus was not the first mission to LV-223

The Black Goo will return, but not as a weapon, but as a means to create life - the forbidden fruit, if you will

Evolution will NOT be the focus, but instead the hierarchy of creation and ancient Gods

David wishes to play God himself...

Ideas from the original Star Beast will be incorporated

Prometheus 2 is said to have a very Matrix and Blade Runner feel to it, regarding the agenda of the Creators and the Engineers

Prometheus 2 will have a much larger cast, not a smaller one

Ideas which didn't make it into Prometheus will make their way into Prometheus 2
