The decision to turn Fedora into a dark comedy didn't work. Marthe Keller was miscast. Glamorous, but not mysterious or alluring enough to convince us she's this great diva of film and she's being dubbed, which nearly eradicates her performance from being taken seriously.

It was risky for Wilder to direct a film like this because it was a given they'd compare it with Sunset Boulevard. And Sunset Boulevard is a masterpiece.
