Not only is it terrific entertainment, but every scene in it is inventive and visually arresting. The central performance is terrific, however at a deeper level it tells a deeply human story. It is far more poignant than its reputation would suggest, as many focus solely on the (incredible) technical aspects of the film, yet I found the story itself very affecting. It tells a timeless story of a man's rise and fall, far better than any other film has. The ending in particular almost had me in tears. Truly one of cinemas greatest accomplishments.
