Some low-budget films which be released in limited number of theaters still can get money back due sell copyright to some television channel (StarMovies, HBO, Cinemax.....)?????

Many low budget films featuring Bryce Dallas Howard as lead role such as Manderlay, As You Like It, The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond have been released in too few theatres and have very low box office gross. But I think these films can make some more money due sell DVD and sell Copyright to some television's channel (HBO, StarMovies, Cinemax....). Right?

Manderlay's budget is low (14 million USD), it still can get money back due sell copyright???

Of course, most movies depend on DVD sales and television broadcasts to make a profit. Many movies have made little in the theaters and went on to make much more later on. Kevin Smith mentions in An Evening With Kevin Smith that the theater is basically a commercial for DVDs. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, for example, grossed 30 million in the box office but made 60 million in DVD sales. The Shawshank Redemption is still making money off TV broadcasts and it was one of the most rented movies ever but it did not make much in the box office.
