Shock and sadness.

Yeah, shock and sadness, I guess, especially cos of the way he chose to end his life and the circumstances behind it. He must have felt terribly alone.

Oh right. The word usually has lots of negative connotations around it so it's surprising its context is for something positive.

I'll view it a totally different way now.

When in all caps it is positive. So when people say "GOAT" they are referring to the Greatest Of All Time. Surprisingly it's an official term - I have seen the NBA use it for example.
