IMDb lists 4 starring roles for Tom Cruise in 1983. Risky Business is his consensus breakout role, but I remember it as beng nothing special, IMO. Losin' It is an early Curtis Hanson effort about 4 young guys partying it up in Tijuana, I have only seen parts of it. The Outsiders is an ensemble piece with an All-Star roster of actors on their way up, including a very young Diane Lane. All the Right Moves features Cruise as a high school cornerback trying to earn an engineering scholarship.
I like ATRM a lot, in spite of a soundtrack of some of the cheesiest 80s songs imaginable. Craig T. Nelson is superb as the coach, and Lea Thompson bares everything. I find it refreshing to see Cruise's character portrayed as more than a jock. The football scenes are some of the most realistic I have seen in any movie (I played HS football), and the film does not follow the usual pattern of sports movies. Highly recommended.
