Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) Was Surprisingly Good

Saw this earlier and was pleasantly surprised. I liked the first film a lot and thought the second was so-so, this one for me might be the best yet, easily better than Chapter 2 IMO and about on par with the first. Very tense and scary in parts, seeing Elise n a bigger and more central role was great and The Man Who Can't Breathe is easily the most frightening demon/entity yet of the series. I enjoyed all of the little tie-ins to the first two movies. I really enjoyed this and it definitely rates among the better prequels I've seen.

I agree! I wasn't expecting much going into it, but it just turned out to be one of the scarier mainstream horror films. Definitely surprised me and even made me jump a handful of times, which I rarely do! I was impressed with the storyline and the entity is horrifying! I enjoyed it and thought it was really well done.

Too bad that the first installment is such utter crap (in my opinion) that I really don't want to bother with any sequels.

A serious question: Can I watch Insidious 3 without watching Insidious 2, or do I need to watch the 2nd installment to understand the 3rd?

The reason I ask is that chapter 3 has got some really good reviews, but chapter 2 sucked so much balls that I have yet to make it past the 20 minute mark without bailing.

I did like Insidious Chapter 1.

I caught the last half of it after seeing Mad Max: Fury Road and while I liked what I saw, i didn't find it especially creepy. Maybe the best bits were in the beginning. Not the most ideal way to watch a movie (uh, no duh), but I didn't feel like sitting around waiting for it to start all over again.

Loved it. I missed the Lamberts but it was pretty refreshing to see them focus on a new family. Also Lin Shaye was a badass!

I went to see this after hearing the positive reception, even though I thought it looked pretty awful based off of the trailers. I thought the first 2 films were much, much better and scarier. I don't understand the hype for Insidious 2, I thought it was a very well-done horror sequel.

This film was still good though, and better than most mainstream horror. It started off very promising in the first half hour but ended up losing steam after that. It relied way too much on jump scares. I didn't really find this entry to be all that scary IMO.

Could not agree anymore! Compared to 95% of the mainstream horror flicks that are disposed to us each year, Insidious 3 was a step up not only for the mainstream horror genre, but for the franchise as well. The demon was horrifying, the bedroom scene was one of the creepiest scenes in the last 5 years of mainstream horror. It was just a very well done prequel and addition to the trilogy. The Insidious trilogy is arguably one of the best trilogies in horror of all time. All 3 of them have delivered coherent storylines and strong scares (although Insidious 2 was the weakest in the bunch).
