Sad to hear. He was the most interesting dude ever. He was a knight. Lived in a castle. Was in more movies than anyone ever. Was a direct decedent of charlamaine the great. Was a classically trained opera singer. Put out an operatic metal album a few years ago. Man hes gonna be missed

we've lost the greatest villain this world will ever see.

I didn't want it to be true. Also I first read about it on facebook and celebrities get declared dead falsely every week there. So I was looking for proof to refute what I read there.

What a life! A WWII veteran (first of the SAS no less), linguist, artist, musician, actor, bona fide star and champion of the best british film ever made.

So what is everyone's favourite performance by Lee? The obvious roles for me are Lord Summerisle and Scaramanga, although I've always had a soft spot for his part in Pete Walker's House of the Long Shadows.

I've got a soft spot for his wordless Dracula in Prince of Darkness, partly because it's so bizarre that he never speaks. Is it true they couldn't afford to pay him his going rate if he had any lines in that movie?

Obviously Lord Summerisle other than that, and he was absolutely perfectly cast as Saruman too. As regards Summerisle, it's cool how much he personally championed The Wicker Man too, which would otherwise have been pretty forgotten.

I thought he didn't speak because he didn't like the lines.

Actually I just Googled it and found this at the BFI:

"A popular myth alleges that the lines written for Dracula were so bad that Christopher Lee chose to play the film silent. While it is true that Lee utters no dialogue throughout, internal memos show his agreement to record a TV trailer for the production with extremely poor lines, suggesting that the decision to play the part silent was taken by Fisher."
