This is my stand alone idea to reboot the Halloween series. Erasing the continuity of both the original series and the Zombie remakes. This idea is to continue the series in a new light. The fact that neither series is related to this story gives us the advantage of going to a new direction. This includes erasing the Thorn, Killing Relatives, etc. This is a new story and therefore a new series.

HALLOWEEN: THE RETURN TO HADDONFIELD

The opening credits shows newspaper clippings and crime scene photos of the original Halloween massacre; Michael killing Judith, Escaping from Smith’s Grove, the murders of Annie, Paul, Bob, and Lynda, Loomis dying in a fire he set in the Myers house to kill Michael, and Laurie Strode committing suicide. Six years after the original massacre, Michael wakes up in a hospital and murders the orderlies watching over him before escaping. The next morning, Detective Nick Brackett (the nephew of former Sheriff Lee Brackett and cousin of Annie Brackett), is assigned to search for Michael. Brackett knows where Myers is going and heads for Haddonfield.

Meanwhile, in Haddonfield, the Myers house is now owned by the McKinley family. The family consist of; William (Dad), Molly (Mom), Dylan (24), Matt (21), Ashley (18), and Emily (16). They’re reminded of the fact they’re living in the Myers house by pranksters who wear the Shape mask and looking through the windows. Emily starts a relationship with a nice guy name Chris Crane. Michael arrives in Haddonfield and murders 3 painters, taking their overalls, the classic shape mask, and a butcher knife.

That afternoon, Brackett arrives in Haddonfield and tells the new Sheriff, Gary Hunt (obviously played by a new actor) that Code 78 is in effect. The code frightens the police department. Hunt informs Brackett that the McKinley’s live in the Myers house. Back at the Myers/McKinley house, the kids have a party with their friends (Becky, Heather, Alex, John, and Dennis). Brackett and Hunt inform the parents that Code 78 is occurring. The parents are frightened by it. The rest of the town is informed of Code 78 becoming effect. Kids under 18 are not aware of the meaning, but adults are. Many families lock themselves in their homes and men arm themselves. To avoid panic, the parents decide to make things look normal and go to the store with protection of a single police officer. When they leave the store, they’re driven to a secluded area where they discover their protection officer is dead and Michael, in full police uniform, has them trapped. Michael murders the parents. He returns to his house, still in police uniform and murders the police protecting the house. It’s heavily implied when he encounters the police, he’s unmasked. The audience is only seeing him from behind, lower part of the body, or close ups of his eyes. It’s not until the police are dead that Michael puts his mask back on.

Michael murders rookie officer Julius, who was drinking of the job with John and Dennis, both whom are also killed. Michael goes on to kill Dylan, Becky, Matt, Heather, Alex, and Ashley. The only person left is Emily. Emily’s boyfriend Chris arrives in time to save her. The two attempt to escape in a car, which Michael had tampered with prior. Just before Michael can kill them, Brackett and Hunt arrive with more police where Michael is shot down. The film ends with Michael being transported in an ambulance. The ambulance, on route to the morgue, flips over. Michael comes out and it’s revealed he killed the paramedics before Michael walks off on the road with the Halloween theme playing.

It's not that I dislike your idea, but by referencing the earlier events it does connect to the original series, which was rebooted twice within itself and again with a remake.

I'd prefer something released entirely as a standalone film, with no mention or connection to the past movies or any continuity whatsoever. I'd especially love if they could pull of a 'Curse of Chucky' where that's what you think you're watching but there's a big twist and BOOM! it was a sequel the entire time.

Yours is essentially setting it up as a direct sequel to the original in that respect, no? As much as I prefer the original film (and series) it was already rebooted twice (with part 4 and H20). I'd rather get a standalone film that makes no mention of past events from either franchise.
