Demons (1985) Steelbook

$45.99 is a preposterous amount for one movie (especially one you haven't seen), but I wanted to do it right for my first Synapse title. By all accounts the presentation/package is unimpeachable and this looks like it will remain the definitive release of the Bava/Argento cult classic.
Did anybody else pick up a copy of this limited run? Does anybody have any thoughts to share on this movie? I'm stoked to include this in my collection this year. It looks like something right up my alley.
And what are your thoughts on the sequel? Will I want to pick that one up (for the same price too?)

>>1You got ripped off, in the UK Arrow Video put out both films in a Steelbook with more Extras and posters for half the price.

I have not picked up this release, but want to.
As for the movie - it's essential '80s horror and one of the most fun, fast-paced, balls to the wall horror flicks out there. Great gore, great music.
The sequel is more of the same, but not nearly as fun. I wouldn't spend that kinda money on part 2. It's still decent and worth a watch, but a giant step down in fun and overall quality.

That's exactly why I felt confident going through with it. it My favorite horror films from that era (An American Werewolf in London, Re-Animator, Fright Night, Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps, Evil Dead II, Night of the Demons) are all infused with a manic sense of energy and are ridiculously fun. That's mandatory for the Halloween season, IMO. This seems to fall right in line with all of those.

I'm a big fan of those movies, too. Demons has the same nostalgic look and feel and would fit perfectly alongside any of those. I actually discovered Demons when I went looking for a demon movie I remembered watching on Cinemax as a kid (it was Night of the Demons, but I wasn't complaining when I found Demons instead.)

'Demons' is a pretty decent movie. Like so many Italian horrors, it has great visuals but some seriously idiotic dialogue. I have the old Anchor Bay twofer with Demons 1 & 2...
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000059PQ3/I'll have to go back and re-examine the dvd quality. If it's sufficient, I'll probably just stick with what I have... if not, I may upgrade to Synapse's standard blu-ray edition.

I loved both Demoni and the sequel though agree the first has the edge. I saw it in theatres and still remember the original movie poster in the subway before it came out.
I don't know if I would pay that much though for any version of it or any movie to be honest. A whole series of films maybe, but not a one off no matter how great the extras. Then again I don't consider myself a collector.

I do, which is why I've bought Code Red titles at 3x the price I feel they're worth

I have both the the Demons 1 and 2 steelbooks. They're great. The first Demons is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. It's probably the most entertaining horror movie ever, it has probably the coolest movie scene ever (you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it), it has a lot of gore, it has great music and the demons look really creepy. I hope you'll enjoy it.

its the helluva fun film.
i would've spent considerably less, though.

I pre-ordered the limited steelbook releases of Demons and Demons 2 on day one. Synapse is probably my favorite film distribution company (next to the more recently founded Vinegar Syndrome) and I pick up every title of theirs that appeals to me.
Both films look and sound near-perfect on these new releases. The first one is a classic but I actually find the second one to be even more entertaining.

I believe the Arrow steelbook is region free and you can pick that up for much cheaper

There have been a few complaints regarding the colour on the Arrow release, apparently there's a green tint to some scenes. I have the Arrow set and I can't see it myself, but then I've never been that hot on things like that.
The Demons one and two steelbook is still only £13 though which is half the price and has better artwork in my opinion.

I picked both of them up. To be honest I don't think either are worth the price but I have a problem spending tons of money on stuff I don't really need. I am a little surprised you can still order them though. How limited can the be?
Looks like Synapse will be releasing them at a normal price on DVD and regular Blu-ray as well.
They have put out some great stuff though so you should definitely pick up many more of their releases.

No single movie is worth that price, and we share the same infirmity as collectors.

Same here; only 3,000 copies were pressed yet we're going on a year later. I deliberated, especially with reasonably-priced editions impending, but ultimately gave in. Like I said, it's a monumental release and I wanted my first Synapse purchase to be special.
They have put out some great stuff though so you should definitely pick up many more of their releases.
I've perused their catalog and nothing really jumps out at me at the moment. Any suggestions?

There are a ton of great movies so it is hard to pick a few to recommend.
For Blu-ray: Vampire Circus, The Exterminator, Red Scorpion, Curtains, Intruder, Thou Shalt Not Kill… Except are all worthy releases.
I am a big fan of their Nikkatsu Roman Pornos as well but not sure you are into them.
These especially stand out for me on DVD. There is Brain Damage, Long Weekend, Singapore Sling, Evil Dead Trap, Christmas Evil and Lemora.
