I suck at making these, never sure where to start.

I might as well go with the found footage aspect. This doesn't really feel like a movie that had "found footage" style in mind.

I mean, first problem is that it has the opening credits, you know, name of the director etc. It's a small nitpick but it takes you out of the whole "you're watching things filmed from someone's camera" stuff.

Also, why does it need to have a soundtrack?
Is it me or there weren't cameras present in some scenes? Did the movie suddenly gave up with the found footage thing?

Now onto the story. If you're familiar with the story this movie is based on (and I'm not) then this movie becomes extremely predictable because you know what the ending is (even if you know the smallest details, like I do). I heard this doesn't have much to do with the real event though.

The characters aren't anything special, we don't really spend much time with them that could make them more memorable and likeable so we could care about them, we mostly explore Eden Parish with them, discovering what they discover, The Father is the only one that stands out because of Jones' acting.

There were some parts of the story that I didn't really understand.

- One of the characters is a mother who wants that the VICE people take her daughter away from Eden Parish, how it's dangerous etc. Then when the whole suicide and massacre thing starts, why does she kill her daughter instead of letting her hide with that other guy?

I get it that she didn't want to let them harm her anymore, but she just did what they wanted to do the whole time. Seemed illogical.

- I didn't really understood the reason why Father told everyone to commit suicide. When the main characters find him when the whole suicide thing starts it seems like he did it because other people will arrive, how they'll call them freaks etc. That's how he explained it.

Didn't the sister of one of the characters invite them there? I'm sure Father had to know about that, she probably told him. He even agreed to do an interview where he explained what this is all about. So, what the hell?

I thought that the suicide stuff was planned from the beginning, from the way some "citizens" of Eden Parish acted, but it seemed like it happened because those guys arrived. Sure, I guess Father probably lied before he committed suicide (that's what I assumed), but even that's illogical, why would he lie during his last minutes?

The whole thing didn't make sense to me, please, correct me if I'm wrong, but it just seemed like Father was really sensitive and stupid, except only being crazy.

Again, I could be wrong, I don't remember all the things from the movie, I've seen it some time ago.

- One other thing I didn't understand is why did that one guard let them go at the end? I thought they were supposed to kill everyone? They were shooting at them the whole time, why did that one guard change his mind?

It just seemed like lazy screenwriting.

- Didn't they leave one camera in Eden Parish? The guard who let them go said he's going to burn everything so how are we seeing the footage from that camera?

One of the reasons why I think this didn't try to be a found footage movie.

Overall, I thought the whole thing was uninteresting and weak. The suicide part was kind of disturbing in places though. If some plot holes were fixed and if some plot points were fleshed out this would've been much better. I heard the movie was longer but they removed a lot of stuff, so I guess that explains some things.
