Just saw Halloween 5 for the first time

Utter crap. This has none of the suspense, terror, or tension of the first three films.

The music was piss-poor and didn't suit the scenes. What's with those "boing!" noises when the cops appear?

Donald Pleasence comes across as a total bully to that little girl (who was the best actress) making me want Myers to get him and the other idiots.

And that whole business with the mark on the wrist was stupid. It was never even visible in the prequels!

I got so bored and sick of it I skipped to the ending, only to have Michael crying (stupid) and Loomis catching him in a net and whacking him with a plank (LOL!).

I know some like this but I found it a stupid, stupid movie, and an insult.

Not sure I would call it utter crap as I think it was plain old crap, but I'm not one to split hairs.

I agree with most of your peeves.

In addition to the cops (who were supposed to be a homage to Last House on the Left but I don't think worked) and Loomis (who I agree seems to have gone a bit overboard) I also couldn't stand the Tina character and the whole Myers hide-out in the beginning.

Part 5 being so awful is one of the reasons I give so much credit to Part 6 as I think it did a decent job picking up the pieces left by the wreck of its predecessor.

HALLOWEEN 5 has aged badly. The characters are some of the most annoying in the franchise (the bumbling cops, Tina) and it lacks the suspenseful jolts that made the first three Michael Myers outings so much fun (not counting HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH here). There are a few memorable scenes (the Rachel-stalking scene was well done, the chase through the cornfields, the kills in the barn), but overall there were too many "WTF?" moments.

The clown music that they tossed in with the cops was bad, as was that 80's guitar crap, but the actual Alan Howarth score was excellent. Yeah, you can blame all the bad stuff on the director as he had a hand in the script and re-writes, and Trancas rushing the sequel into production so soon after part IV. Aside from all the bad elements I like the look of the film, and the score, and aside from the poor elements it still had that Halloween feel (6 was the last of the series to have it).

I like Halloween 5. Probably my most unpopular horror opinion ever is that I think the mask in that movie is not only not stupid looking, but freaky as sh!t. And the laundry chute scene is one of the most intense of the whole series. Danielle Harris is excellent and I like the weird euro vibe of it. It's a creepy movie.

I agree about Dr. Loomis being a bully and essentially using her as bait at the end; totally out of character for him. Also agree about the stupid clown music for the cops. Overall:

1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 6 > remake > 5 > H20 > H2 remake >>>>>>>> 8

I loved this one as a kid and my opinion hasn't changed. There are elements I don't like, including the new Myers house and the "clown" cops, but there's much I do like also. It has a killer opening title sequence, eerie lighting, a standout performance by Danielle Harris, some interesting twists, a few knockout scenes like the one in the laundry shoot and a really p&%*#! off Michael. A very underrated chapter in the franchise IMO.

I agree, and Howarth's closing theme is really eerie, too. That cloaked figure who springs Michael I actually thought was an interesting wrinkle to the story, and it's just a pity that they could not come up with as interesting an explanation for his connection to Michael in the next movie (one of the reasons I dislike "H6" so much). I also think after their 3 previous encounters it was kind of thrilling to see Loomis getting so physical clubbing away at Michael with a 2x4. Yeah, it has it's flaws, but I much prefer it to a couple others in the series.

I think the part at the beginning where he hangs out with the old hobo guy was supposed to be an homage to Frankenstein, (or was it The Bride of Frankenstein)? But, it didn't really work for me, it just seemed too contrived.

coming back to edit: it was in Bride of Frankenstein that the monster stayed awhile with an old blind hermit. I think they were trying to make a reference to that scene, in Halloween 5. But, of course, Michael Myers was EVIL, so he killed the hermit... Frankenstein's monster was just clumsy, confused, miserable, and happy to make any friends at all, so he let the hermit live.

By far the worst of the originals, including Resurrection. I'll take Busta over the cops, Tina, and that stuttering kid.

It's decent. Would have been better if not for the comic relief cops and their silly music/sound effects. Sign of poor writing when they have to alert the audience that yep these 2 characters are supposed to be funny.

I love it!! My favorite Halloween sequel! I think it has suspense, good story, good characters, good actors. I have seen this one more then any of the others including the original. 10/10

To be fair, I don't find any suspense or terror in Halloween 3 or Halloween 4 either. I know it's an unpopular opinion on the Horror board, but I think Halloween 3 is a really bad film.

But I will definitely agree about Halloween 5. It's pretty bad.

Exactly!

It's better to watch Halloween, the first one, a fifth time.
