For me, 1985, simply because Roddy McDowell was in it. And it was more believable than the execrable 2011 version. I like Colin Farrell, but this version was just terribly sad.

I was all ready to hate the remake, because I consider the 1985 one to be a classic. But, I have to admit that I respect what they did with the remake. The whole Las Vegas setting, where everyone is nocturnal anyway so no one notices that the vampire is nocturnal, was pretty inspired... also, all the actors did a solid job with what they had to work with. My crush on Imogen Poots remains, to this very day, completely unabated by that movie... Anton Yelchin was a Charlie I could mostly relate to, although it was pretty uncool the way he failed to stick with his old friends. And Charlie's mom was cooler than the mom in the 1985 version, although she wasn't as funny. I'm not sure how to compare the Colin Farrell vampire to the Chris Sarandon vampire, they are just so different.

Having said all that... nothing will ever supplant the 1985 version for me. The music, the sense of humor, the effects, literally everyone in the cast... everything about it was just amazing.

The original had tons of character and Roddy McDowell was simply amazing as the cowardly has-been actor while Chris Sarandon was the epitome of 80s cool. The remake doesn't come close to capturing that magic and may as well have been titled something else entirely.

I'm a Fright Night 85 guy. Plain and simple, but I have to say I had fun with the 2011 film because of the cast. I liked the cast and that helped a lot, I must admit. I could continue to watch it without this level of disdain I imagine exists with a lot of my peers who hold an affinity for the 85 film. I also really like Fright Night 2 (the 80s film, not the 2013 sequel to the remake) and found it a lot of fun. I consider myself quite a lucky guy to have grown up with such movies as Fright Night, Vamp, and The Lost Boys. All are such fun, and add the likes of Creepshow and The Monster Squad, and I must say that despite a lot of bad stuff that happened to me personally, the movies helped.
