It's football for fuck sake.

Rugby style football got here first. The rugby and the style slowly disappeared & the game evolved until it was just "football" in the US and "American Football" everywhere else. By the time your version of football hit the US shores the name was already taken.

Because they're already using the word 'football' to refer to rugby. Which they play in armour, as they're all wusses.

It's what we call little kid games.

I think it has to do with the word Association, like a slang contraction of it, or something.

The word comes from England, and actually precedes the sport being called football.

Football originated in Britain, but so to did the word 'Soccer'.. at Oxford uni, as an abbreviation of 'Association football'.
Rugby was Rugger
Football was Soccer.

It's to avoid confusion.

The only other way to solve this impasse would be to change the name of the American game of 'football' to 'hand-egg'.

But remember that name came from the early 19 century. None of us had a hand in this choice.

I know right ? Plus the sports they call football doesn't even use feet to move the ball.

I'm not a fan of American football, at all. More of an ice hockey fan. Anyways, even though I don't watch it, I'm pretty sure they kick the ball in American football. There's the punt, and the field goal... right?

Don't know about that, as I've never really watched a game in my life. But I'm pretty sure most of the time they are running with the ball in their arms.

That would be like calling rugby "football" because you are allowed to kick the ball and score drops. Wouldn't make sense. There's only one sports that mainly uses feet to move the ball, so let's keep the term "football" for that sports. It's as simple as that really.

Yeah at best it should be called handball.

The irony of potentially even calling it 'hand' anything is that majority of players on the field don't even touch the ball IN ANY CAPACITY during the game, or if they do then it'll be less times that you can count on the fingers of one hand.
