Why did Al Gore lose?
1 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 22:16
I'm not even talking about the recount.
Why was it so close in the first place?
Why didn't people like Gore becoming when after a popular democratic presidency?

IMO he was too stiff.

Really? So lame then.
I can't believe that some perfectly qualified nominees for any office aren't voted in over the shallowest and trivial of reasons.

It wasn't because he was stiff, they were both equally bad candidates in an equally divided country who both basically got the same amount of votes.
5 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 22:56
How was Gore a bad candidate?
6 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 23:01
The same reasons any candidate is bad.

Campaigning has a lot to do with it, for better or worse.

Because he's a scary True Believer, coupled with the fact that the US rarely re-ups a third consecutive term for the same party.

What's a True Believer?

1) He stupid took his own state for granted.
2) He didn't have Bill Clinton campaign for him.
3) Bind and Confused Florida voters.
4) Ralph Nader and the Green Party nimrods. Ironic since a couple years later Al Gore became idolized by the Green Party and Environmentalists.
5) Sandra Day O'Connor was a Bush supporter.

In his environmental Marxism. His boss Bill Clinton had been a kind of pragmatic political triangulator, not really all that ideological. Gore believes in stuff.
However, you can't overlook the fact that the US electorate seems to have a strong preference for alternating parties in the White House every 8 years. This can push a weak candidate over the line.

All the more reason to get rid of plurality voting
13 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 23:34
Gore's too liberal for most Americans. He a pussy.
14 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 23:37
Gore would have been the exact same as Bush Jr. We would have gotten the same wars and the same surveillance state and everything in between. Two sides of the same coin.
15 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 23:42
What makes you say ANY of that?
16 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 23:51
Because there was barely any difference between them, I voted Bush because he at least claimed to be conservative.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-04 23:55
1. He was a very pro-war candidate, as evidenced by the things he said
2. He was clearly a neoliberal

I saw a "Frontline" about the NRA which made a pretty strong case that it was Gore's tie-breaking vote in the Senate on a gun control bill that lost him Tennessee and the election.

Al didn't know how to debate or win over an audience. Coming off of the Clinton era, in which Bill was a master at public speaking, Al was just a bore. He would make stupid claims such as that he invented he internet.
Timing had a lot to do with it, it always does.
Also, Bush was more likable. He was an "every man". He wasn't an Ivy League "A" student, he was a "C" student. He was a former alcoholic, who gave up the sauce. More people could relate to him and liked him.

Because the media focuses on retarded issues like "who would you rather have a beer with?" rather than "who would be the best President?"
21 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-05 00:14
So you're saying, fake news?
22 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-05 00:21
Sadly, not the media but the general populace.
