I remember reading a story back in the 80's when Shelly Long left Cheers. After she was gone, the story was that in the last season the writers, with Shelly's blessing, decided to make her character as unappealing and annoying as they could so that when she left, she wouldn't be missed nearly as much as she would have been.

When I read it I thought "That makes sense because she was beyond annoying in her last season".

I am wondering if 4ct is making accessing these boards so frustrating that by the 2017 there will be no one left anyway and we will be happy to have found a new home.

Oh, and I read a few years ago an interview with a producer from Cheers and he admitted they planted that story and it was totally false.

My favorite Hollywood story is about the origins of Walter Mattau's "real" name: Walter Matuschanskayasky. (Say it quick three times. Or even once.)

Walter famously disliked Charleton Heston (real name: John Carter) so during pre-production of Heston's 1974 disaster epic "Earthquake" the director, Mark Robson, came to Matthau and asked him to play the starring role in the film. Matthau wasn't interested and rejected the part because he didn't want to be associated with a Charleton Heston movie. However, Robson persisted.

Matthau finally agreed to take the small part of "The Drunk". However, after viewing the pre-screening of the film, Matthau was furious. The film featured his "Drunk" character so prominently that he appeared to be Heston's costar in the film. The film was already made, and there was no editing it by that point. However, when it came time to insert the credits, Walter reached instructed the credits writer to credit him with his "birth name", and gave it as the ridiculously-long name, "Matuschanskayasky". Thereby preventing the famous name "Walter Matthau" from being used on promotional products for the film.

Am guessing such has happened many a time with all the huge egos involved in a film. For every key player the nuclear option is to walk off the set during production, but then the agents talk them down and explain how being the person who blew up the whole film will be a death sentence on your career. So instead they turn to moves like this.

Reminds me of that other disaster film Towering Inferno with Paul Newman and Steve McQueen

McQueen insisted on having the exact same number of lines in the movie that Newman had. He also wanted equal billing . The problem was that he doesn't come into the movie until it's halfway through so the entire second half of the movie belongs to him and he ends up looking like a star and the hero .

Newman said he would never make another big budget movie again and he would certainly never star with McQueen .

Good news is he took the points and ended up making a gazillion dollars, give or take a few
