It's true. So I'm really into film. I studied film in college and have a B.A. in it, in addition to journalism. I know all the different types of shots and mis-en-scene and all the terminology. I took one class just on Jim Jarmusch. Another on Soviet cinema. Battle Potemkin anyone? Anyway...

A while back I had a blond date, and I brought the girl to see Up in the Air, the George Clooney movie. Well I didn't find this out until after the date, but she said she wasn't interested because she found my choice in movie odd... and wondered why I didn't pick a more mainstream action "guy" movie like 2012 or Ninja Assassin...

The same thing happened just a few months ao with a different girl, when we met up to see Room which I suggested. She found it boring, and wanted to see Zoolander 2 because it looked "funny."

So apparently if you're guy, you're supposed to have no taste in movies from an artistic perspective, and be into mindless actions flicks...

I keep up with the Oscars and crap. I'll see a movie because I'm into the director who made it. Most mainstream people don't think that way. They don't know about the crew. They'll see a preview with the Rock in it and it looks funny so they'll see it. They don't pay attention to the director or writer of the movie. So uhh, what about Roger Ebert? He's a dude. He rated movies and his system didn't include how "guy" the movie was. But no - they don't understand that comparison. He exists in his own smart world, regular dudes who date girls aren't supposed to think like that apparently. Anyway.

No, being smart and cultured doesn't get you shunned. Being arrogant about how smart and cultured you are gets you shunned.

It's all about how you talk to people. You probably gave off the impression of trying to flaunt superiority.

Next time let the girl decide what she wants to see rather than you picking the movie?
