You see black men in New York that are in good shape and capable of working on Welfare while you see White people that are in their 60's with disabilities that the government refuses to help. Why is it okay for the government to take our money and give it to able bodies in their 20's and refuse to help those with real disabilities?

My dad's best friend can't get any government assistance and he can barely walk. My dad says they told him to fuck off basically when he said he needed help with housing.

Housing is a whole different welfare, dude.

It takes YEARS for most people to get housing assistance. You need to need housing, but if you have something like you're couch surfing, it's a lifestyle because you have a roof over your head.

Do you have an Area Agency on Aging?
Here it's a County level agency which is now called Aging & Independent Services. Locally ours gives out taxi vouchers & farmers market vouchers & assists with ADA stuff.

The problem with government is many don't know what is available where. I have people come in that need to be retrained due to a job injury, but no one has directed them to the Department of Rehabilitation. I've worked for a local government for almost 30 yrs, but most ofy knowledge comes from actual experience. My father got job training from Rehab & my mom gets the taxi vouchers. We have a list of felony friendly employers I've had compile myself so we can pass it out. I have to call to get forms from other offices. I call to get fliers for various charities to pass out.

There's no coordination

The friend could likely get EBT much easier. There are more funds available for that.

I cant comment about black men in their 20s, but my wife's aunt (white woman with two white kids) is scraping by working at the Dollar General and she cant get any government help at all.

EBT is income based so if her income is too high, she's not getting anything.

My sister in law owned her own house, but her husband was a contractor who got paid under the table so she was able to claim only her income for supporting a family of 5 so she got assistance.

My husband & I made far less, but because we both had official paychecks we didn't qualify for WIC or anything.

I will point out my in laws were all Republicans which, along with my numerous conservative co-workers, have colored my opinion that Cons hate all the people "ripping off" the system, but have no problem milking it themselves. All my in laws told me to cheat on my income tax. (We had a resale business on these side).
