Is it really so bad to be Canadian in the US?

Canada is one of the "Five eyes" and the last time the Canucks rose up, in 1812, they were quashed with a flick of America's wrist. Canadians are no threat to the US, and many of them have assimilated quite nicely into American society. (Ex. James Cameron, Justin Bieber, John Galbraith, Elon Musk.) Canada isn't Iran or North Korea.
So why would a Canadian feel the need to run from their identity in the US?

We like Canadians. Don't take the good-natured ribbing seriously.

Justin Bieber :)
Elon Musk -- South African by birth. He's no more Canadian than American.

Justin Bieber? John Galbraith? Do you think you have chosen the best people to make your point?

I see the "five eyes" as one big family really. I can't imagine why anyone would dislike Canadians just for being Canadian.

They should be considered as illegal as the Mexicans

Do you feel the need to hide being Canadian in the US? I sure don't. Unless you come from a state with thick distinct accent 9 out of 10 times I can't even tell the difference between us.
What do you mean by five eyes?
