Have we become too practical?
1 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-28 11:20
I don't see it as cynicism, but as a practical application of the serenity prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can't change (other people, places, things), the courage to change the things I can (myself), and the wisdom to know the difference. I asked my late sponsor Jack D. (I know, it is so ironic) what wisdom was, and he said it was the ability to recognize a mistake as you were making it again. Growth was measured by how much less time and effort you spent on the mistake. There are many forces out there greater than we are, and our only choice is to not become a part of the problem.
One message I take is how disenfranchised groups are now using that status as carte blanche to do whatever the hell they like w/o consequences. I am sensitive to this because as a conservative straight white male, anything I do that is remotely asocial is called out immediately as a$$hole behavior, unlike the guy who plops his sickly smelly old greyhound down on the floor of the library, where we can't say anything about it because he fits the stereotype of of an aging queen perfectly, and our complaints are clearly about that and not the dog.
On the other hand, a blatantly trans-gendered individual (actually somewhat similar to Wanda on In Living Color) was vaping in a Starbucks the other day, and was totally shocked when asked to stop or take it outside. It was obvious to me that he/she/it had become fully invested in their disenfranchised status as a license to do whatever they want. In a way I feel sorry for them. They are like children who grew up with parents who never used the word "no." At some point their asocial behavior is going to result in consequences that are unpleasant. They of course will only see it as a prejudice against their disenfranchised status, and not for the fact that they were being a douche

If you're a Christian keep in mind Jesus embraced such anti-social, disenfranchised people....he didn't hang out with the "straight, white, conservative males" of his day, that is the Pharisees, they were the people he often condemned. So next time you see disenfranchised person doing whatever he or she pleases, maybe you should pray to be more like Jesus and accept them anyway...you don't know struggles these people might be going through.

What was I saying that is bad? I didn't even state this position but shared to see what others think. Also I was wondering is that we've become so accepting that we let things that are not allowed like bringing animals or smoking inside of a building blinded us because we rationalize it as targeting people since they are transvestite or blind? The poster is asking not to condemn the people themselves but should we look the other way when they smoke where it's not allowed because of being a transvestite or blind? My post to the one above was that a more dignified answer would be no instead of saying I was butthurt? Butthurt over what is what I want to know. But back to the question do we look the other way on these things because we feel like we are offending the person themselves instead of the no smoking or animals when we would another person?

>>1How do you know this aging, old queen isn't Jesus?
You start out by quoting the serenity prayer, then give out all kinds of excuses why you should not accept what you can't change.

Who asks do we change our attitudes like smoking or animals where they arent allowed to appease others or say its fine because of who the person is. I've explained it read onward. Also I don't know how Jesus keeps getting thrown in when I didn't even bring him up

Put the part that you didn't write in quotes or block it off. As it reads, I'm assuming you're a Christian.
However, for every one of the disenfranchised persons who are annoying you, remember there are hundreds that are not acting up, therefore you probably don't see them.

There its in black my part. But I not saying these people are annoying me. What is being asked is kinda like the show what would you do? They go around with scenarios and see how people respond. So like the show would you ignore someone smoking in a nonsmoking area like you would a transvestite or would you treat them the same by telling them to take it outside or just tell the none transvestite because you would see it as an attack on who they are. The poster was saying that we cant change society so we stop trying. That is what the first part means. The scenarios are what he saw and thinks that everyone should be treated the same.

Pharisees were straight white males?
No, they were dark, hook nosed Jews. Jesus reserved his salvation for his flock and his flock alone, meaning light skinned, light eyed peoples.

what are you even talking about? What isn't getting through? Again my answer I would tell them both to step outside to smoke. Would you yes or no? Not that hard really?

Becky is one of the dumbest libs in NC. Trying to teach a chimp to sing can be funny, but forget about booking Carnegie Hall.

I fully expect chimps to headline CH the way this is going. What, are you an anti chimpist or something?

You should take up refuge at a bird sanctuary armed and let them know you mean business. And call in FOX news to cover it now that Trump has banned them from all of his events.
Strike back man. Dont take it lying down anymore.

See ANON that was what I was afraid of. I notice sometimes posts are misrepresented because of emotions. That is why I was trying to explain but people were attacking when it was a what would you do scenario. If we want to have a dialogue we have to put that away and see it at face value. But I honor your apology and I accept it. We're cool.
