Did Feminism create a Hookup Culture that is bad for women

tl;dr
Should women form an OPEC of sex?
Before Feminism women as a group set demands in exchange for sex in the form of marriage.
Now, some women will sleep with a guy after he buys her a drink.
So a woman who wants to wait until marriage has to compete with these 'low demand' women and feel unable to do so effectively.
Would women be happier and more empowered if they formed a cartel to return to the old system of 'no sex until marriage'?
This is the question presented by the video.

I don't feel the need to compete with anyone. I do me and if someone feels I don't do something he wants me to do timely enough he can feel free to say goodbye and look elsewhere.

Pussy is cheaper than oil these days. However, I value my "drill" and don't like to drill where rusty drills have drilled before.

I dunno but @ some point I think white American men are going to get tired of the crap and they're just going to start enslaving them again like they do overseas....

They did but they also engineered a safety net that didn't rely on men to provide for them. They still lose in the end because women typically want the family more than men do, and now they have nothing to offer men anymore to obtain that, but they still have the ability to survive without a man. So that's good.

I know a girl who seemed like a good girl that got HIV from a black guy who had it and now no one will be with her. She ruined her chances at a relationship by putting out and getting HIV.

and the only thing they really had left to offer was sex - which was always their power.
"Easy" girls always had the attention of men, but "good girls" won the prize: marriage which most often meant security.
Now women have their own security so all they have left is sex without obligation. They've "all" become "easy" thus reducing their value as companions to their vaginas... which is exactly what the original complaint was.
Women have come full circle and found that even with all their "equality" their value has diminished rather than increased.
Women, do you want to know why you need to conform to certain standards of beauty?
Because, due to your equal rights, men can find intelligent, funny, independent women everywhere. All that remains is your sex appeal and intelligent, funny, independent women who are beautiful are still more likely to win the prize than intelligent, funny, independent women who are unattractive.
When it comes to marriage and life-long companionship, you've made decent men more discerning and indecent men more aggressive.
YOU created the "rape culture" you bemoan.

I don't need to conform to standards of beauty.

That's why you're single.
10 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 03:06
No, I'm single because my husband died.
If I connect with someone else that would be great, but I'm not actively looking. It isn't a pressing need. And I never said I looked good or didn't look good. I take care of myself, but I'm not going to worry about what the media says I should look like. I'd say I hold my own for being 47.

but from all the feminist literature, that's what the push from men is.
Actually, it comes from fashion and cosmetic companies... many founded by and still run by women.
12 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 03:56
Don't much care who pushes it or created it.
13 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 04:04
your age and circumstances.
You've already won the prize once....
14 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 05:10
Companionship of a good partner is a wonderful thing. I suppose some could see that as a prize, but I hope and think he felt the same.
15 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 05:51
it is a prize.
The point is that fewer and fewer women can be differentiated except as sexual objects.
Intelligent, witty, independent women are a dime a dozen.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 06:22
I always saw it as it would be much easier to be a sexual object than intelligent, witty and independent. Just not nearly as worthwhile.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 06:56
wanted women to be seen as intelligent, witty and independent. Now that they are, they have nothing else to offer but their sex.
It seems they won the battle and lost the war.
18 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 07:31
I'd have to respectfully disagree that all women (or all men for that matter) are intelligent, witty and independent.
19 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 08:12
That's not the point. The point is they wanted independence from men, and after having achieved it, they're more depressed than ever.
20 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 08:23
but there are far more now than ever before.
I like women who are intelligent, witty and independent. The pool from which to choose was smaller 30 odd years ago and I had to forego certain other "requirements". Now the pool is much larger and I can be more picky.

There's a time and place for everything, Ksouthworth... sometimes she's a witty and independent creature and sometimes she's a sexual object... not always, but sometimes and at the right times. The thing I've found about women is they are like the ocean... always changing. Sometimes calm, sometimes rough, sometimes inviting, sometimes a stormy struggle to deal with, BUT she's always the same ocean. And a woman is as powerful as the ocean and requires the same respect. Anyone who denies this simply hasn't known a real woman.

That there is some Industrial Grade BS, and embarrassingly copious to boot!
23 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 09:27
>>22As I said... "Anyone who denies this simply hasn't known a real woman". Thanks for the example, ignatiogran. Now go back to your porn site while mom isn't in the room...

Hmm...I think I have much more to offer than sex. I think it's pretty sad that this is the way a lot of men think of women. It's safe to assume many men have sisters, mothers, and daughters. Is that all you think of those women??? If "decent" men don't want to be with a woman because she won't put out, I'd question his decency...and personally, any man who thinks that all women have to offer is access to their vaginas, he's not a man I would want anywhere near mine.
25 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-17 11:22
That's a part of what make the woman's assertions in the video so muddled.
I'd think that each gender could use it as a screening process, if their idea of the sex/commitment trade off doesn't fit well with yours, that's a good sign that you shouldn't be wasting time trying to make it work.
Equality and I differ on many points in our philosophies.
However, is it fair to suggest that withholding sex until he commits is any more decent behavior than requiring her preform sex to be considered for commitment?
Or, as the video suggests, is it decent for women to try to force other women to comply with their wishes in order to advance their own agenda against what they perceive as men's agenda?

I agree whole-heartedly. And I agree that withholding sex to achieve a goal is disturbing, to say the least. I don't know about other women, but that's a pretty important step in a relationship, and it shouldn't be done with someone you don't really know. If a man can't understand that, or doesn't care, it tells me volumes about him...nothing good.
I apologize, but I need some clarification to answer this question:
...is it decent for women to try to force other women to comply with their wishes in order to advance their own agenda...
What wishes? What agenda?
what they perceive as men's agenda?
What do they perceive a man's agenda is?
This entire thread makes me weary :(

Ha I think this dude has said he has daughters. I wonder what they'd think if they knew dear old dad felt all they had to offer was sex lmfao

In all seriousness isn't there something between sex with almost every man you have a drink with in a bar or waiting for marriage? I don't think most of us are either extreme. I think most people don't hop into bed immediately but wait for some degree of a relationship developing.

I think most people don't hop into bed
that may be generational.

Classist as well.
'Among the lower classes' women have 'always'* been more likely to fail to comply with this 'cartel mentality' and was used as a reinforcement to middle and upper class women's participation to avoid loss of status.
With the deconstruction of class, to the degree that it has been done in western culture, the penalties for what used to be considered 'low value behavior' have been replaced by the idea of 'empowerment by a woman owning her sexuality'.
The, at least perceived, prevalence of this 'empowerment' by middle and upper class(economically speaking) young women who have escaped the close scrutiny of family and previous peer group by going away to collage has caused behavior that used to have very serious penalties to be encouraged among this group.
And with the effects of YouTube and the like(Tublr, Instagram, Twitter, I don't know, too old myself) this kind of behavior appears to give permission to young women of questionable judgment to freely engage in 'hookup culture'.
* Only applies to developments due to urbanization in western culture over the past few hundred years, and is due to poverty conditions rather than anything else.

No. The sexual revolution did, they are two different things.

Don't most guys still prefer to court the "good girls" over the women who've been around the block with random men they just met? I don't feel like I have to compete with anyone. My boyfriend and I met through mutual friends, and we instantly connected long before any sex was involved. I'm now in the process of moving in with him, and I'd like to think if his motive was to use me strictly for sex, then we probably wouldn't have agreed to take this next step in our lives right now.

There's this strange view among people on the internet that all men are done with relationships are now only looking for sex because of feminism. Meanwhile, in the real world, life is going on as usual. Men are still dating and getting married and having families.

Seeing as millenials have fewer sexual partners than Baby Boomers and Generation X
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/05/06/why-millennials-have-sex-with-fewer-partners-than-their-parents-did/ I think this "hookup culture" is overhyped and exaggerated. Maybe the next generation will have fewer partners, and society will undergo more commitment to fewer partners. Whatever happens now and in the future, I don't think that feminism has anything to do with it - it's just the sexual culture at large.
