Is being shot to death part of the American Dream?

The way the news reads these days, people are shot to death by police for playing with toy guns, by their Dad while cleaning his gun, or by their neighbour-on-drugs who mistakes a three year-old for a Martian invader and blows his head off with a shotgun.
How many people on this board have seen someone get shot, or have a member of the family or a close friend shot to death? Is death in the streets really a normal, everyday occurrence in the USA?
Are there really Death Panels, as Sarah Palin once said, that determine your fate by breaking pencils in weekly committee meetings?
Is America totally and utterly beyond redemption, like Nurse Jackie at the end of Series Seven? Should the Rest of the World just give up and walk away? Is there an antidote that could bring the American Dream back to life?

Talk about street cred! I wonder how many people, when seeing 50 cent walk by, say "Hey...thats 50 cent....he got shot a bunch of times and lived!!!"

It's my favorite hobby!

Does the show become bad? I'm only on season 1 on Netflix. It's such a strange show lol.

Hi SFBE:
Haven't seen you in a while. If you are watching Nurse Jackie, Season one, you are in for a treat. Don't jump ahead. We watched two or three episodes a night until 7.12. There are many twists and turns. One thing that buzzed me was watching Grace and her sister grow up every night.

What do death panels have to do with the rest of your post?

The Palin "Death Panels" were a creation of the minds of a sick party, the GOP.
They never existed, but they sure sounded catchy.
Being shot with a gun is very real, but I wonder how many people are actually affected by gunfire.

No. No more than ass cancer or bacterial meningitis. Or immortality for that matter.

"Say hcello to ma little friend!"
"Go out in a blaze of glory"
If you find these iconic phrases part of a role you aspire to give meaning to, then yes, it may well be part of your dream life.
