Just watched the episode where Jimmy kills his dad and screws his mom (oh, spoiler alert) and was thinking, wow, this kid is messed up. He is literally living out what we used to metaphorically think of (in the era when the series takes place, actually) as the root tension that causes all our neurosis and psychological problems. I wasn't sure if they meant to do this or not until Jimmy walks away and he's limping harder than he usually does. He always limps, but this time it was very exaggerated and I think it was to underline the Oedipus thing, you know, Oedipus had his ankles pinned together when he was a baby and left to die on the side of a mountain (wow, Greek plays can be as dark as a kid's fairy tale can't they?) so he walked with a pronounced limp as a grown up, just like our friend James.
If you're wondering what this has to do with politics, I have sex and crime, both of which are political; psychology and the politics of psychology; history; child abuse; film. Those are all hugely political items.
