It's little more than a scare tactic intended to accomplish three things

1. Convince women that male students are all just a bunch of boogeymen prowling for them around every corner

2. Demonize men so they can be more easily railroaded in the workplace and in child custody battles

3. To purport the notion that women are forever victims of gross injustice and need special privileges in order to be protected

Plus this statistic is based on an analysis from people whose definition of rape is so broad, it means nothing. For example, if the woman is asked "Did you have sex when you didn't want to" and their response is "I regretted it later" (which has a completely different meaning) the survey considers it the same thing and thus considers that woman a rape victim when in fact she isn't. Or the question might be deliberately vague such as "Did you have sex while high or drunk?" but fails to ask if the other party was likewise drunk or high. If her answer is to this question is "yes" then it's automatically considered rape while leaving an important detail out.

This is why I don't believe any rape stats trotted out by Feminists, and that includes the claim that most rapes aren't reported since those surveys are likewise composed of dishonest or vague and misleading questions combined with having a definition of rape that is so inclusive it means nothing. I'm not arguing that ZERO rapes are unreported but it's not nearly as common as Victim Feminists want us to believe

I believe the phrase is "sexual assault," which includes everything from an unwanted kiss on the cheek to a violent rape.

Actually, these statistics may very well be correct. I know this because I have raped well over 1 in 10 women on my own campus.
