What do liberals see as a sustainable society?

Do you really think your idea that everybody can just do whatever they want, and still have a nice upper middle class living is realistic? That you can be a painter, a street musician, or a fast food worker and still live in a nice house in the suburbs, have two cars, maybe a trailered boat, and two or three flat screen tvs around the house? Do you really believe that we can achieve this by raising taxes and having some bureaucrats decide what is "fair" for everybody?.

Wow, that's a nice little strawman fantasy you have going for yourself there.

Sure it is. There's no possibility whatsoever that you're misinterpreting what she said.
Jesus, conservatives. Gotta love watching them trying to think. It's like watching a little kid playing with his dad's gun.

Then what is your model for a society? One where people who flip burgers for a living can magically have their salary doubled by government decree with no ill effect?

Did...you actually read the article?
Nancy Pelosi may be a left wing crackpot, but the sentiment she was expressing doesn't even come close to stating what you claim it does.

It is exactly what she said:
“You want to be a photographer or a writer or a musician, whatever -- an artist, you want to be self-employed, if you want to start a business, you want to change jobs, you no longer are prohibited from doing that because you can’t have access to health care, especially because you do not want to put your family at risk,” she said.

No, it isn't. The sentiment expressed was that you could now TAKE RISKS without worrying whether or not you have health insurance.
I thought you wanna-be cons were all about fostering an environment where people were encouraged to take risks in business?

Normal people have to get an education, learn a useful skill, and pay for their own health insurance.
10 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-14 07:21
>>9Yeah, the problem is that the whole world doesn't necessarily agree with you on what a "useful" skill is.
You like being a plumber, a car-factory worker, a small-business owner? Good for you! But don't think for one minute that you "chose" to enjoy it because you're a sensible person. It was there all along, probably from birth.

The free market determines what a useful skill is

How so?
Please enlighten us on how one is able to still pay all our regular monthly bills; as well as monthly Obamacare fees, while pursuing our 'dream career' as a lute musician.

Do you think a handful of people having more and more money, and everybody else having less is sustainable?
Because that pattern has appeared many many times throughout history.
And those societies invariably collapsed upon themselves.
Go read some damn history, will you?

No, and thats exactly the kind of conditions that socialism creates. The only places you can ever actually cite it as "working" are places like Norway....small homogenous populations and huge oil reserves.

You addressed your posts to liberals. Liberals aren't socialists. Any socialist will tell you that. Hell, most socialists don't think Bernie Sanders is one of them.
If you don't know that, you don't know a damn thing. Socialist IDEAS work fine--like Social Security and Medicare--you want to give that up? Any system based around an ideology--whether Marxian socialism or laissez faire capitalism--is inherently flawed. Capitalism left to its own devices will invariably self-destruct. That isn't Marx talking. It's Schumpeter. Google him.

Thank you!
However I feel you're wasting your breath saying that on here. When nutcases say "Libs" they don't know what they mean, they think they mean Communists which they feel also means Socialist, which in turn somehow means Democrat.
That somehow also means Marxist and Ecologist.
There is a total and utter lack of political education with people who support individuals like Donald Trump and indeed the Republicans.
Though I have to be and say there isn't much more to be seen with the Democrat party. When the U.S manage to finally unearth a left wing party they will truley understand what left and right wing is. Then maybe they can unearth a party that represents centralist Liberal ideals.

"Middle class? We don't need no stinkin' middle class!"

I don't know about other "liberals", but this one here believes that :
Full-time work, in ANY field, should allow someone to buy food for three meals a day for the number of people in the household, afford the rent in a clean, well-maintained building with enough room for the whole household, have a car and maintain it if the need is absolute, or be able to buy public transporation passage, have an appropriate wardrobe for everyday wear, and a bit of money left enough for entertainment sufficient for the household's mental well-being. Ideally, everybody should be able to save a bit for rainy days or for retirement.
Of course, all of this doesn't need to be fancy, high-end stuff! Just appropriate, clean, and sufficient.
There is PLENTY of money. It just doesn't circulate enough.

Even working in a car wash or a McDonalds?

>>19Yes, ass hole. NOBODY said it had to be a fancy or high end...Jesus, what a fucked up mind you have...

There should be if there's a law guaranteeing how much money and support a family gets. Otherwise it's not a sustainable system.
Should somebody with 10 kids be guaranteed all that stuff if they work a minimum wage job?
22 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-15 02:06
How would enforce a law that limits the amount of children a family is allowed to have?
23 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-15 03:34
Answer my question first.
24 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-15 08:51
nice b8 m8
25 Name: Anonymous : 2016-01-15 14:18
Anyway, the answer would be taxation. Instead of a tax break, the family would get an extra tax with every child after a certain point.
