The Cosby accusations: How can anyone claim rape ten years later, without a shred of evidence?

Why would they not have reported it the day after?

Is it possible for women to lie about rape? Yes. It has happened in the past, and will happen again, because all humans are capable of lying.

Is it likely that FIFTY-ONE different women would lie about the same man raping them? Not really. Is it likely that they would independently come up with a story about America's Dad drugging them for sexual purposes? Nope. Did Cosby admit under oath (testimony that was sealed until very recently) that he did in fact drug some women for sexual purposes? Yup. Has he had material in his comedy routines over the years that indicates an interest in using drugs for sexual purposes? Oh yeah.

Physical evidence is not necessary under the law to prove rape. A jury or a judge can find someone guilty on the basis of a victim's testimony. I was a juror on such a trial (the man claimed the sex was consensual) and we all voted guilty, on the basis of the alleged victim giving compelling testimony, and the accused giving no testimony at all--can't hold that against him, but he didn't give us a story to compare with hers. Though I was disturbed to learn that some members of the jury didn't necessarily think forcing a woman to have sex at knife point was rape. They gave in, eventually.

People have been convicted of murder on the testimony of people who witnessed said murder, and then didn't tell anyone about it for a long time, because they were afraid to speak up.

This is probably more of a response than your pathetic post deserved.

1) anyone can make claims without evidence. That's why it's called a claim and not a fact. There is no statute of limitation on making claims, either.
2) for any number of reasons. When the majority of these instances occurred, "eh she was on drugs/drunk" was very much an accepted counter to a rape claim. That would be my guess as to why these women in particular didn't report right away. But again, lots of people choose to not report sexual assaults for many different reasons, mostly fear inspired.

I respect your views and understand your comments. However, I am handicapped by having had a mother who was a congenital liar. She spun lies on a never-ending basis and she passed her traits on to her daughters.

My oldest sister for example, had bilateral mastectomy in the 1970's for breast cancer. Two months ago she told me she had never had breast cancer. She told me she was not my sister, but my half-sister and that her father was my uncle. He died and left bit of money, with no heirs to claim it and she wanted it all. She made a formal claim to the authorities but it was declined. A month ago she denied ever having said that.

So my credulence is tested when a woman says she way raped. I have personal knowledge of a false rape case, where the woman was out for revenge at any cost. So I don't care how many women come forward now, after 40 years of Cosby's career, claiming that he drugged them. They can make any claim they like, but unless there is proof, I will say he is innocent.

In any event, I would be more concerned for any woman who was raped recently and who needs help now, rather than a string of women who look like they can take care of themselves.

Sad to say, but most women are good actors and it is hard to tell the genuine article any more.
