On re-reading it's easy to tell what you were probably intending to say, but it's not what you said. You didn't say 8mm was original but emulating Spielberg. You said it was good but emulating Spielberg. If you meant to say the former, then yes, your comment makes sense.

I usually like your posts, but really man.

Every film ever made is someone' attempt to emulate someone or something else. Even the first film tried to emulate a photograph they saw before. Originality is something that only exists in concept, in reality it's figment of someone's imagination.

It's all downhill from now. It's not like people see him in the same vein as James Cameron or Christopher Nolan as this ambitious blockbuster film-maker who puts his heart and soul into his films. Whilst he did a solid job in directing Star Wars, he was more or less just a hired gun. He had more creative leeway with Star Trek than Star Wars and even then he had to follow the studio line.
