Do people actually like the new Stars Wars Movie?

1 Name: Anonymous : 2015-12-26 22:13
The only thing I keep hearing about the new Star Wars Movie is 'wow, it broke this record' or 'wow, it broke that box office record'

It feels like I'm hearing about it breaking Movie records alot more than about the quality of the Movie itself, nobody seems to really know why they like it so much, they just say they do, and wow another record is broken

Also the breaking records itself isn't an indication of quality, there was so much hype surrounding the Movie, that and the backlash against the prequels and having the original actors back that it doesn't actually matter if its a brilliant Movie or not, it was always gonna make this sort of money

Also a part of me thinks that Huge Star Wars fans would like Star Wars to be the highest grossing Movie of all time that even if the quality isn't the best they think its the best chance they have of beating Avatar

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm expecting it to be utter bobbins when I do.

It's better than the prequels. It's not as good as the EU.

It only better than episode one, and that's thanks to jar jar.

I liked it. Some parts where fun, the dialogue was amusing, and it was good to see the old characters again. My biggest problem with the movie was that it moved way too fast, giving the audience little time to adapt to the new status quo. Because of this the movie felt more like fan fiction rather than a continuation of the saga and on the whole didn't leave a very big impact on me. I might even rank Revenge of the Sith higher then it because that movie did leave a greater impact on me despite having its flaws.

Everyone I know who has seen it says it's great.

I really like it, people are bashing it mostly because they think its a rehash if ANH and in fairness it kind of is. What they dont think about though is that it is kind of the point.

I came away from the movie remembering the first time I watched star wars and that is what the whole point was. To bring it back in the way it did. People are all up in arms over at the TFA forum saying how unoriginal it was, this or that. These are the same people who whined and moaned about how bad the prequels were and that it departed from what made OT so great. Well this comes along and the same crowd is bashing it because it is so much like the original trilogy namely EP IV

THAT WAS THE POINT!!!!!

If the point is to recycle the 1977 story into episode 1 and episode 7 (and 10, 13, etc) then there's no point watching them.

So episode 8 should be empire strikes back?

The World is full of DUMBASSES who will follow the crowd no matter where it goes, and THAT's precisely WHY the publicity for this movie, as with other "blockbusters", usually involves "records".

Dumbasses don't want to "be left behind".

But not to worry, they WILL "like" the movie, after they have spent their $20 and realized they were taken for a ride, they will come out and exclaim what a "great movie" it was, even if they don't really believe it. That's what feeble minded morons do.

Your setting the bar really low. Star Wars was original. Yes the plot was rehashed and simplistic , the characters thinly drawn and the story arc very predictable. But that movie still showed you something you had never seen on film before. It was ambitious. The Empire Strikes Back , the best of the series , was a serious film which worked on pretty much every level. The franchise went of the rails from that point on. Now we have the reboot. Which unlike the original has no ambition what so ever. It's aiming only for mindless entertainment. Which in and of itself is fine. But it is hardly anything to be lauded. It aims low and it hits it's mark producing a competently made and entertaining but ultimately completely forgettable film. Sure it's an improvement over the prequels. But it isn't anything special. It shows what well orchestrated hype and a ready built audience eager to like something can produce a megahit whose commercial success far exceeds it's artistic merits. The "point" of this film was to make money. And they have accomplished that by regurgitating the original film with new characters in the same old outline. Like Disney has done with a hundred other films that weren't the cultural touchstone this films "inspiration" was. If your fine with that enjoy it. But it's a meh movie and you can expect that everything that follows will be more of the same.

These are the same people who whined and moaned about how bad the prequels were and that it departed from what made OT so great.

Long time fans wanted something that fit in with the OT, not a something that was a shameless rip off of it.

I preferred it to the prequels but still did not care for it. Its a bunch of hype and very kiddish. And Kylo Ren sucks.

Im a huge Star Wars nerd, but I don't care to see it until I can get it on Redbox. It looks like a rehash of ANH, with a lot of the elements simply given a new name, which is almost embarrassing to me.

I was disappointed that they basically remade "Episode IV." However I did enjoy the movie despite that. They also introduced some likable new characters which by itself puts the movie above any of the prequels.

I didn't like it: it was a crummy rehash of A New Hope with some really outlandish sequences. How could a girl who had just begun to recognize the Force in her, a girl who had never trained with a light saber, defeat an expert? But, as long a Jar Jar Abrams included the original cast and didn't put a talking CGI rabbit into the movie, people would declare this to be one of the better Star Wars films.

Most people who have seen it seem to love it.
I can't wait to acquire a pirate copy.

Was very enjoyable, perfect big screen fodder. A real nostalgic trip to the original movie with steady build up of characters and plot and pared down action that you could actually follow.

It's hands down the best of the 7. Empire is almost as good but not quite. The original trilogy has one great character (Han), two decent ones, and a great caricature (Vader). TFA has 5 great lead characters.

I liked it, doesn't matter to me if it breaks records. I thought I remembered The Phantom Menace breaking records too.

Why would anyone want to beat Avatar? If it beats Avatar, it's the movie and its writers who beat Avatar, not fans. There is no collective there.
