Generally, the children of politicians and officials should not be fair game as targets of criticism from other candidates or from the media.

Standing in the background for photo ops, or otherwise appearing with the family for a campaign event should not make them fair game.

But when a candidate has his kids read scripted material for a campaign ad, especially lines critical of another candidate, that crosses a line.
