Because of my job, I sometimes find myself working in low-income communities, surrounded by people who don't work. There are often large groups of young, able-bodied men, taking entirely too much of an interest in what I'm doing.

I have no desire to make any involuntary donations, that aren't going to be used for urban development, or some kid's scholarship fund.

For that reason, I'll tuck my Beretta M9 into the inside pocket of my flight jacket. It's the pistol I know from the Army, except it's the Italian model. Think Lethal Weapon. I'm a qualified expert with it.

It doesn't fit very well in the pocket, and the weight of it, gives the jacket an awkward tilt that screams "armed citizen."

I don't mind my audience knowing that, but I personally, am not cool with anybody having a gun in my house that isn't me. I don't expect my clients to be cool with it either. I'd rather they not know that I have one. Sometimes, I tuck it behind my back in my belt.

I've noticed that there are a lot of intelligent, thoughtful, gun owners here, and I was wondering what the preferred method is for concealed carry.

I have a concealed carry permit issued by the state where I reside.

I never leave my gun in my truck, where it can be stolen, and used to kill someone.

I like ankle holsters and loose pleated pants. I can conceal an Officers length 1911 in mine.

The best way to carry it for the greatest effect is "open carry."

If you carry it in a jacket, what do you do on warm day, or when you take the jacket off?

If the gun is small enough, inside the belt holster by your strong hand side or in a deep, front pocket using a pocket holster that doesn't 'print' and stays in the pocket when you remove the gun.

My advice is never ever carry it in the small of your back. If you fall backward, the gun could damage your spine.

Others like ankle holsters, but that requires the extra step of bending down and lifting the pant.
